More Vegas questions- dining

Post by Xislandgirl »

We are looking for a nice meal; steakhouse, French, etc. We would like to keep it around $200 for both of us, max $250 before tip.

Favorite cheap lunch or touristy lunch.

We are limiting ourselves to the Strip and Freemont Street.

We will only have 2 1/2 days and I don't want to spend too much time deciding where to eat. The options are so overwhelming, I feel like I have been searching for a week. Thanks!

Isn't Mesa Grill out there? (Bobby Flay). I have been in NYC several times and always have a great (expensive) meal there.

How about Fleur De Lys in Mandalay Bay? French, nice and in your price range. Great food!

The Paris has a nice outdoor seating restaurant on the strip, but make reservations.

Michael Mina restaurants at the MGM will give you outrageous food. Save money and ask for a tasting or appetizer menu. Small protions are quite large.

Too bad you weren't traveling off the area, I'd recommend a great restaurant on a local lake. Great prices too.

Sorry, tried editing the last post and it was already too late.

Do not waste time on the top of the Eiffel Tower. Too pricey for what you get. Stick with known chef owned restaurants as there are so many out there.

PM me if you need more ideas. Have a relative that works in the restaurant business and started their career in Vegas. They know all the good eats!

Wolfgang Puck at MGM Grand.
We sat at the bar so we didn't have to wait for a table. Food was fantastic.

Casual food-we haven't been in a couple years, but we've always liked the Paris buffet and La Creperie in the walkway between Ballys and Paris for fresh made crepes with great fillings. As a total tourist/junk food/overload your sugar sense thing you used to be able to get fried twinkies/oreos and other stuff down on Fremont at one of the places
Hey, you're in Vegas right? You probably wouldn't do it anywhere else :)

places we've been

Xislandgirl,

I put a few of these in my post on your other Vegas thread, but here they are:

Mesa Grill - one of our best meals out anywhere

Olives - We loved it, food was very good. you will see some negative reviews, but we were glad we ignored them. If weather permits request nicely and patiently wait for a seat on the patio overlooking the Bellagio Fountains.

Emeril's New Orleans Fish House (at MGM) - It's pretty good, but not 'special' IMO. We've eaten at NOLA in the French Quarter in New Orleans and it was much better.

Enoteca San Marco (at Venetian)- This is a Mario Batali restaurant and is the more casual of his places out there. We really enjoyed the food and ambiance here, but I'd prefer this as an appetizer and wine sharing place than a full-on dinner. We did eat dinner and the food was awesome, but I think the location and menu is better suited for the first option.

Mon Ami Gabi: wife and I love eating here. It's not as pricey as your budget, but very good food. Again, the outdoor patio is our favorite area to eat here, and we'll sometimes skip breakfast to eat a big nice lunch, or go for a late-nite meal here.

Margaritaville: Hey...just kidding...but you can get to $100 pp here if you're downing enough top-shelf 'ritas!!!!!

I've heard some good things about Delmonico, and also Mario Batali's "CarneVino". My brother and his wife LOVE Spago, but they took my dad last fall and he was less-than-impressed. I suggested they try Mesa Grill and they all loved it better than Spago.

There are TONS of high-end places out there now. Let us know what you pick and how you like it!

Our fave is Picasso at the Bellagio-- ask for a table outside if it's not too cold or windy.

Dine surrounded by real Picasso paintings and the Bellagio fountain show just outside the windows on the same level.

I've eaten there three times and have never been disappointed:
