Caneel Bay closed in September & October?

Post by RickG »

Reported by Gerald Singer on his blog. It sounds like the new economy is hitting Caneel. I'm curious if bookings are down across the board? Last year this time we had two trips booked. None booked yet this year, we are holding off to see how things go.

Thanks for sharing Rick. I really enjoy Singers site but hadn't seen it until you mentioned it a few months back. Now I'm a regualr reader.

I love his stories of "old" StJ

Really? Bummer. I was going to plan an October trip with some time at Caneel. I may have to change the dates.

GS responded on his blog that this is in the "rumor from good source" category.

I trust Gerald but I am waiting for an official release or something. It may seem like you can save money - but how do you retain the employees, maintain the property, etc. (with no cash flow) for those months...
Will be interesting to see how this one plays out!

I just tried to reserve for late October and it said no rooms available.. Then tried late September into October with the same results.

Mid-November has all room categories available.

So either the rumor is true or they are completely sold out.

I also doubted the veracity of this until I went to the online bookings--August and November are very available, so it must be true.

We heard someone outside our office yesterday also talking about it (Caneel employees I think)

So it sounds like a done deal. I guess the math must work for them -

"and no more Sunday Brunch" - Bummer! Unless things have changed, that seemed to be quite popular. Hummm.

Too bad, we always enjoyed spending one day at Caneel on our September trip. I would also be interested in knowing if the parking lot will be open for easier access to Honeymoon.
