Ringtone help for iPhone

Post by Gromit »

Ok. I'm admitting that I am totlaly lost when it comes to the whole ringtone thing. I am beyond a novice.

But after reviewing what options i have with the standard ringtones that come wth my iPhone I would like to download some others.

Anyone out there have any ringtone sources that they like??

Anytips?

I don't want anything obnoxious just want a decent selection to choose from.

So where do I start?

I download mine from the iTunes store. You can do a "power search" under the ringtone category for songs you like.

Virtually any song purchased from itunes can be made into a ring tone. A 15 sec clip anywhere in the song you want to make it. Just look for the ringtone icon next to the song you like and then buy the song. Then in itunes you can make a ringtone for another 99c. 2 bucks overall, but probably about the same you would get from any other source.

Actually MrB maybe you can clarify for me... I read somewhere that you can take songs in your iTunes library and just label them an .M4R file and then save that file to ringtones in iTunes.

Is that true??

If you've yet to figure it out yet, you can make any mp3 or wav sound into a ringtone for your phone. Simply add it to Itunes like you would any other song, or video, and then select it in your music list in Itunes, click advanced, and select convert to AAC. you can then simply go to the new file on your computer, rename the file you created with the extension .m4r (you may have to right click it and select properties to do this depending on your windows settings) and then add it as a ringtone to Itunes.

A friend filled me in on that here at work. I was just missing a step.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain it.

UNlike hubby I am not as comfortable messing around with stuff. Once I get used to it I'm fine but there's definitely a level of anxiety messing around with this kind of stuff for me.

I appreciate the guidance! You are always helpful!!

BTW -- I was really intrigued by your movie set-up at home! Sounds awesome!
