Define "garden" shower?
Our villa (Oleander/Klein Bay) has a "delightful garden shower." Can anyone describe this for me? Will I be standing outside? Is it open air or is just the roof open? If that's the case, how is it kept clean (things dropping in from above) and bug free? Will I need to wear flip-flops to shower? How are the bugs kept out of the rest of the villa? Privacy??
So many questions, sorry. Just want to know what to expect. Our last villa (Carnival Beach House) had a beautiful stone tiled shower with a window.
Thanks!

We have stayed in two villas with showeres described as garden showers.
The first garden shower was physically under the same roof as the house and enclosed by the same exterior walls.
What made it garden, in my opinion was that a portion of walls were open to the outside but screened to prevent (in theory, we did have lizards watching us from the rafters) bugs and such from getting inside.
Also, it was bordered on two sides by large planters filled with vines, flowers and other topic stuff.
The second garden shower was completely outside. It had a 3/4 wall so basically only your head and shoulders could be seen should someone be looking. The walls were stone and the floor was tiled.
Personally, I like this types of showers but our travelling friends weren't crazy about the natural aspect - they are city girls.

Thank you for the replies! Lulu, that is a beautiful bathroom! And SJ: EWWWW!! on the unwanted guests!!
I suppose that is to be expected; we will inspect the shower carefully before using! Did you wear flip-flops when showering? I can't imagine the floor of the shower to be too clean if it's open to the outside.

Our shower last year was completely outdoors, but I don't remember the floor ever being dirty or even an occasional lizard.
Just always watch out. I don't wear flip flops in the shower, but one of the girls in our group did find a scorpion in her shower one morning. She didn't get hurt, just scared.

Ha! I agree.California Girl wrote:I can't imagine that the floor of the shower would be dirty if the shower is being used every day. In fact, with the floor being showered off daily, the shower floor is probably cleaner than the bedroom or kitchen floor!
Natural dirt like leaves, sand, etc. don't bother me in the least. Hairs or crumbs, that is a different story.
We stayed at Oleander in March of '08. The bathrooms have a door adjacent to the toilet that goes out to the shower area. There's plenty of privacy. It has a tile floor and a small garden. The tiled area is maybe 4'X4'. We didn't get any bugs, but by the end of the week there were a lot of leaves on the floor.
Wish I could have a shower like that at home.

Excellent, thanks! How did you like the villa overall? Anything we need to know?minnjim wrote:We stayed at Oleander in March of '08. LULU, Where ever you store your photos you need to have edit ability. Right click on photo, then click on properties. You will see a size, bytes and pixels. Try it on any avitar or photo here. You should get an idea how these sizes afect the picture size. Where you can edit, do so and down size slowly untill you find the size you want. You then need to SAVE changes and the photo will be resized. Ususally you can delete changes if you don't like what you did.
BOB
sago cottage had an outdoor shower and i loooooved it!
there was a door from the bathroom out to a wooden deck with the shower on one side with a private wooden fence and the hottub on the other side with a view of the bvi's.
there were vines growing from the backyard into the outdoor shower area and no roofing at all. it actually rained on me while i was showering once. very memorable and very fun!
the base of the shower was concrete and tile and we found a lizard one day and landcrabs on another day. a big spider was hanging out near the spout too but i squished it with my flip flop.
one cannot have an outdoor shower without some creepy critters. they kinda go hand-in-hand.

I have always enjoyed our garden showers. Our first trip to StJ did not have one. Our second trip my wife was worried about privacy/weather/unwanted visitors. Now she insists on a garden shower in a villa. If it doesn't have one I have to put it on my second class list. We have had the occasional amphibious visitor when we enter the shower but we either share or shush the critter out.
