WHO DAT!!!!

This is amazing! Everyone thought that the Colts were so far superior to the Saints. I guess we showed them. The city is overflowing with joy. Fireworks are exploding, people are dancing in the street and Bourbon Street has more people on it than I have ever seen on Mardi Gras Day. The celebrating has just begun! I am so proud of our team - they played a great game and so deserve the win.

Who Dat say they gonna beat those Saints!

Congrads to the Saints and to the City of New Orleans!

Many sports analysts say that most football games are lost rather than won. This wasn't one of them .The Saints flat out won this one with a total team effort. What a gutsy job from Payton on the on sides kick.

So I forgot about the game! I checked the new this morning (the plan was to avoid the news and watch the game "live" - I have the NFL Gamepass for the playoffs which is really cool) and saw the score of course.

Well - I have only had time to watch the first quarter today - but the question is - how the hell did the Colts lose? They marched up and down the field in the first half - and then only scored one more touchdown? What happened?

Congrats to the Saints who obviously deserve it - but I think this was as big an upset as the Giants beating the Pats a couple of years ago. The Colts really did give their last two games away - and thoroughly beat their previous two playoff opponents. I mean the Saints to me basically beat an undefeated team - and did it after being down 10 nothing. Pretty wild stuff -

Wow that was impressive. Sean Payton and that young field goal kicker have ice water running through their veins, Dwight Freeney became a non-factor as the game wore on, Brees did outplay Manning (almost broke Phil Simms completion % record), the Saint linebackers had a very good game, and they had a pick for six. That interception was more Reggie Wayne’s fault than Manning – he telegraphed that pattern and didn’t break it harder to the inside like he should’ve. Then on the last series, Wayne lets that last pass go through his hands. Can anyone say overrated?

And of course, that emotional X factor of 40+ yrs, Katrina, etc. for the players was way bigger than us folks in other parts of the country could ever fully appreciate. Before the game, sometimes I got a sense from the Saints fans that they were just happy to be there and I thought, jeez, I hope the team didn’t feel that way. It’s obvious they had the killer instinct needed and it is really great they were able to ride that emotion to victory. Enjoy!

This was in the Times Picayune today..

OK, now that we have your attention – good game, huh? – there’s a few things we’d like to clear up.

First of all, you may as well get used to seeing us at the Super Bowl. Because about 100 million TV people saw something during the game Sunday night that countless national media “experts” couldn’t see before:

We belong.

We also hate to miss a good party. And you know what? The Super Bowl is one hell of a party. And that was true even before the public address announcer cranked up “Iko Iko” on the stadium loudspeakers after the Lombardi Trophy presentation ceremony.

One other thing.

We know what sticklers you are for legal documentation, so please consider this our formal written notice of resignation as the unofficial whipping boys of the National Football League.

You’re going to have to find a new whipping boy now. May we suggest the Atlanta Falcons?

We know how hard this is for you. We know that for 43 years, whenever you needed a team to hold up as an example of a perennial loser, whenever you needed some team to make all the other teams and their fans feel better about themselves, we have been your go-to guys.

“It could be worse. We could be the Saints.” That has been our role, and we have filled it well.

Not any more. We are the champions, my friends. And as such, we expect to be granted all the rights and privileges afforded to fans of other championship teams.

So, starting today, whenever you refer to the Saints, you’re going to have to start referring to – and I quote – “ New Orleans’ winning tradition.”

We’ve been waiting a long time to hear someone use that particular phrase to describe us. The term fits. We’ll expect you to use it often.

It also means that you’ll have to permanently retire the term “Aints” as a nickname for this (ahem) proud, storied franchise.

If you mention the “bagheads,” it should be only in the context of ancient history. It has been 30 years since anyone in this town wore a bag to a Saints game. So we will henceforth insist that you stop talking about that like it was last year, and start talking instead about the Finish Strong T-shirts donned by seemingly millions of Saints fans in the run up to the Super Bowl.

The bottom line is that you’re going to have to stop referring to the Saints and their fans as a “great story,” and start referring to us as what we are: A great football team.

We know this will take some getting used to – for you as well as for us. After all, for 43 years we have defined ourselves by the 1-15 seasons.

And the Hail Mary passes.

And the quarterbacks named Billy Joe.

And the holes in the Superdome roof.

Starting tonight we define ourselves by a different set of memories.

By a recovered onsides kick.

By a 74-yard interception return.

By an MVP quarterback holding the Lombardi Trophy in his hand and pumping it skyward.

After 43 years of being treated as America’s experts on losing, we’re ready to become the new national role models for passion and perseverance.

Just to show there are no hard feelings for all the years you made fun of us, we’re going to open up membership in the Who Dat Nation to you, our counterparts in all 31 other NFL cities.

Consider this your formal invitation to the Saints parade Tuesday, which will make every previous Super Bowl victory parade look like a long line at the supermarket checkout counter. You can stick around for the unofficial victory parades: Tom Benson in Endymion, Drew Brees in Bacchus, Sean Payton in Orpheus.

Think of it as one of the perks of membership. In New Orleans, football season never ends. It just changes venues.

So, come on down, hit the parade route and do the new dance craze that’s sweeping New Orleans.
It’s called The Championship Swagger. The steps are easy:

Hold your head up high. Get crunk. And whenever the spirit moves you – which will be often – dig deep down into your soul and say the three words that on this glorious night in Miami became synonymous with success:

Who Dat, baby.

Proudly, passionately, winningly yours,

The Who Dat Nation

Still in shock here! This city is so alive right now...well I am not cuz I was up until 4am! The Quarter was jam packed with locals. It was AWESOME and completely different than when it's filled with tourists during Mardi Gras. It's hard to explain but normally when the Quarter is that packed, I stay away. It was just amazing. Can't wait to go to the parade and show our appreciation tomorrow.

I was not worried with the beginning of the game because I felt like our guys needed to find there groove and settle in, and they did. They seemed to have that trend in the second half of the season where as in the first half they came out fast and strong. I was glad that for the most part it was a close game because it kept it exciting.

When I saw the Disney World commercial and saw Drew say he was going to Disney World, I said out loud that I NEVER thought I would live to see the day a New Orleans Saint would be saying that!

Just back from Nola and wishing we were still there. It is always so hard to leave Louisiana and come back "home" but it was especially hard this time! We're not finished celebrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we'll continue to fly our flags on our cars and house, display our WHO DAT magnets and chant WHO DAT, WE DAT to ourselves!!!

We had so much fun. I have never seen Nola like that before. It is so special to see the way everyone can come together in the city and CELEBRATE!

Nola girl and Nothintolose --- Are ya'll going to the parade? If so, post some pics. We will be watching a live stream on www.nola.com from Mother's. We'll take what we can get! Looks like the city is pretty much shutting down! Have fun!

WHO DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
