I didn't mean to come across as a smart a$$ and yes each person has to do what is right for them but don't be afraid to see a Dietitian. We work with people on an individual basis because what works for one does not work for another. I guess that I get frustrated when people ask for my help and if I give them some tips they look at me like I don't know what I am talking about and tell me about their latest quack diet that I know will fail. It is all about changing your lifestyle and being the best you can be and then being happy with that even if it is not perfect. You have to be realistic.

Sorry if I offended anyone. I was just trying to be funny.
I wasn't offended--I was just defending myself--it isn't easy for me and --well, I don't need to say it again.

No offense taken.

Okay, so help me out here...please.

I get up at 4 A.M am at work by 5:30 a.m so working out in the a.m. which I much prefer, is not an option. When I get home at 3:30 p.m., all I can think about is what I need to do around the house. But what I need to do is walk, run or something.
I have lift weights in my drawer at work and do arm weights and leg weights there. (no one sees me!)

Where does one get the cardio exercise with a schedule like this? At lunch?

At lunch is a good answer, Terry. Does the building where you work have several stories? I used to work in a 4-story bldg. and I'd go up and down the stairs all 4 floors, twice, on my lunch hour.

Or check the Pennysaver or Craig's List and get yourself a used treadmill. I bought a treadmill and it's the best investment I ever made... even if I'm off it more than on it lately!

If you had a treadmill, you could hop on it the minute you got home and work off the stress for about 30 min. and still have time for everything else. In fact, everything else might not be such a chore if your energy was renewed. :D

My mission this weekend, uncover the treadmill!

GinaXOXO wrote:Thank you Teresa Rae! I haven't started to do any research yet but you have given me a lot to think about. I really like my Doctor but if she has a negative reaction to what you have told me I think I will have to get a reference to your Doctor. It is so important to feel good--and not something to take for granted. Teresa Rae, I can tell from what you have written that you know what it is like to feel like something the cat drug in--day in and day out. It was awful!

The lowest my TSH number has ever been was 1.4--but that was with synthroid. I remember telling my Doctor that the number had to be really high because I didn't feel very good. Then the results were pretty optimal. Teresa Rae, I thought--this is it? This is all the better I am going to feel??

Now I am on armour and last month I thought my numbers would be good but there weren't. I do feel better now. I am not sure what to make of it. My Doctor increased my dosage and I feel better this week--I think I am on the mend. My Doctor did tell me that it take a lot of patience to find the right dosage of armour.

Your Doctor sounds really progressive. How long did it take you to get it right?? Like I said; my numbers were better before with Synthroid; I feel better on armour; and I have been at this for over 4 years.

Thank you so much--hopefully you will keep in touch with me--I have spent a lot of time starting this diet and haven't had time to research yet. I hope that you will be around when I start researching. I wonder what my Doctor will say when I ask her for the free tests.

TSH is just part of the thyroid picture. You really need to find out where your Free T3 and Free T4 levels are...you could have low TSH but still have low Free T3 and Free T4, which would explain why you feel like crap. There are also other potential factors...my doctor figured out that my hypothalamus is sluggish and he also diagnosed me with Adrenal Fatigue. Adrenal Fatigue is one of those things that can affect you greatly but most doctors won't acknowledge it unless it's full blown Addison's or Cushing's.

I started feeling a lot better within a month of starting on Nature-Throid, and I don't feel perfect, but I feel like a million bucks compared to where I used to be. We occasionally make adjustment to my dosage depending on how I'm feeling. My thyroid disease is an auto-immune condition so my thyroid function will continue to deteriorate for the rest of my life, so I know that it will never be "over." This doctor also tested me for antibodies and diagnosed me with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis...have you had the antibody tests?

I have a good book on Adrenal Fatigue that my doctor recommends:
http://www.amazon.com/Adrenal-Fatigue-C ... 086&sr=8-1

And I've heard good things about this one though I haven't read it myself or asked my doctor about it:
http://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Fat-Fuzzy ... y_b_text_b

I will certainly keep in touch :)

Gina I'm like you used to like to exercise now really don't care to much. I've went from a six pack to a keg  Adkins will work for anyone if you can do it. I'm a carnivore so it was easy for me not so easy for my wife. I think South Beach is a variant of Adkins. Anyhoots it works, the wife and I both lost alot of weight fast. Since we have gained it all back and then some going back to our old ways. Simple eat high quality protein and carbs stay away from simple carbs ( white rice, bread, potatoes, all that refined junk food we all love) well it's really not that simple or I would't be a fata$$ again. Good luck and I wish you success on whatever route ya choose :)

Thank you captain kirk! If that picture of you is current you are NOT a fatass!!

If you have the willpower to do adkins and south beach diet I think you will do well with weight watchers. WW's new program has small doses of those plans--they encourage building our diets around good foods but they also give you freedom to choose bad foods and still be on plan. I think for someone like me, with an all or nothing thought process, that is going to help me find success. On those days were you are tempted by a baked potato, or when you go to a friends house and there isn't a low carb drink or a vegetable in the house . . . you can stay on plan and not feel guilty.

I will keep you all updated.

Out of all of the "diets" out there, WW is one of the best.
Also, if you are trying to "diet" or watch it, avoid the food porn thread!

Ditto. I try to avoid the food porn thread when I am hungry. That food on there looks so good!

CAGirl,
You're right, lunch time is a good time to get in a 30 minute walk, either outside on a nice day or in at the mall (indoors).

I've also tried this week to come home and get right into my housework. 30 mins of vigorous vacuuming is quite a workout, add some dusting and cleaning of showers, tubs, etc. Hey, got my work done and a work out.

WW never worked for me as counting points drove me crazy. No carbs works better. Fresh greens, vegies, and load on the lean meat.

As you can tell by my ticker, I'll be on STJ in 15 days, yippee! I pm'ed Pia a while back because I was very anxious about dropping some weight quickly. I know a lot of people are fans of WeightWatchers, and I have followed the WW plan in the past with a fair amount of success. I lost about 40 lbs, but over the last year, I gained 18 of it back, just out of lack of real focus (no one to blame but myself.)
So... I'm trying Isagenix with Pia's support, and so far I've lost over 9 lbs in less than one week and feel pretty good. Just thought I'd chime-in in case anyone else is getting into "I'm desperate to do something before I get into my bathing suit" mode. Actually, I'm feeling good enough about this that I'm thinking ahead to my return from vacation to see if I can tackle the last 15 lbs that I've been trying to lose for as long as I can remember.
But above all, I know we just want to be healthy. Here's to everyone's health!
