I think we're all a little guilty....
Well said Gromit. I returned from my 1st time trip to STJ last month and loved it. I much preferred the "rawness" of STJ over the sanitized experience I have had in places such as Bora Bora and Mauritius.
Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of luxury. But I think it can be summed up as the ability to explore and experience versus vacationing in a crafted construct.
For the record, I did a lot of research here (and other sources) on STJ before deciding and I don't think I was oversold. In fact, anyone who does their homework would quickly see that STJ is a beautiful, quiet, and quirky island.

Muhaha took the words right out of my mouth!
My family just returned from our first visit to STJ ~ June 23 - July 7th. I had done a lot of research for several months. Explored other islands before choosing STJ. I was not disappointed with the vacation. Yes, there were a few things that could have been better, but it was a vacation my family will remember and treasure forever! Newbies need to take into consideration that STJ is an island and if you are going to an island, you should want to experience "island life".
There is going to be sand with those beautiful beaches!
I personally want to say "thank you" to all the Forum members who helped me with planning our trip!
Best to all,
Jo
