augie,

Good one!

Or perhaps a GIANT piece of "humble pie"?

Bump.
Exislandgirl, did you use the whole roll of crescent rolls or did you use individual rectangles (two crescents)?
I'm going to try the Buffalo chicken dip as well.
Any other good ideas from you chefs? We need to keep it kinda budget-friendly due to the mounting house costs, but it is my birthday as well!

It's just not the superbowl for us if the Pat's aren't in it. But we still eat!

I'm not a "measuring" person when I cook but here are some recipes that have been a hit at recent parties:

Seafood Cigars
Equal amounts shrimp and scallops (to feed 20 I used a pound of each)
Butter
Shallots
Garlic
Cumin
Phyllo Dough

Saute shallots and garlic until softened in butter (used 1 stick for 2 lbs seafood)
Let cool slightly and then pulse in food processor with cumin until mixed together but still slightly chunky
Layer 3 sheets of phyllo buttering each one as you layer
(at this point you can cut phyllo to make individual cigars to make rolling easier or keep phyllo in one sheet
At edge closest to you, put seafood mixture across (can do as much or little as you like- depending on how thick you want them)
Roll up cigar style and put on parchment lined baking sheet.
Brush with more butter
Chill in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or you can do ahead.
Preheat oven to 375. Put cigars in for 10 minutes and check every 5 until they are a light golden brown.
ENJOY!

Mini lobster mac and cheese bites:

Make your favorite home made mac and cheese
Let cool
To 1/2lb of pasta, add 1 egg and 1/4 lb lobster
Spray mini muffin tins with non stick spray
Scoop mac and cheese mixture into muffin tins
Sprinkle with paprika
Refrigerate 30 minutes or can be done ahead for party
Preheat oven to 350.
Cook approx. 12 minutes or until bubbly and slightly crisped on top

I know it has been overdone, but I love artichoke dip, with the addition of chopped green chiles. Made a double recipe for a party this year and they ate every bite.

Hi Liamsaunt,

Tough one...I'm not sure how "superbowl" oriented this is but how about mini chinese mushu beef or chicken pancakes? I think it will meet the requirements and is mild and flavorful. It takes some prep time to make it (and an oriental grocery store for the tiger lily buds and dried mushrooms) but the end result is well worth it.

Hope all goes well!

Let me know if you want the recipe.

I need ideas for my super bowl party too. The only thing on the menu so far is that horrific buffalo chicken dip, at John's request.
Liamsuant: we made that for our New Year's Eve party. It was a hit.
