I am so glad that I found this forum too. It was so helpful while planning my first St. John trip. Now I enjoy it as much for the people as the information. I still check out the other forums (I go by a different name there) but I don't post much on them.
Speaking of other forums, if anyone knows of a good one for the Cayman Islands, I would love to know!!

You have it right. This forum is crappy just like the island of St. John. Somehow I don't think anyone is keeping things HUSH HUSH.

Connie wrote: .... it seems like this forum is moderated more. I seriously don't believe that alot of what has happened on the other forum would happen here. There were weeks that went by when fighting just went on and on and on. Very very nasty posts remained on the board and that just fed the fire.
.....These vacation boards should be fun and I'm glad I found one.
I don't actually think this forum is moderated more. I think that's a myth....probably started by someone from that other place. In some ways, I think it is self-moderated in that the people here don't tolerate inapproproate behavior. There's also some natural selection involved - people who want to play nasty just give up and go away, in most cases.

We definitely have some fun here. It seems the people on this forum would rather laugh out loud than endlessly debate, and I'm all for it.

As far as information goes, I learn stuff on this forum all the time and I've lived on St. John for twelve years.

Thank you for your nice words, waterguy!

I can understand that I must have been lucky. When I was Newbie on “the other forum”, I only remember that I had nice and serious answers - like here!

Linne,
So nice to find you again.. been in any hot tubes lately? LOL
and waterguy nice to read you again.
This is great.
Someone did ask where in Mexico I am going. Cancun, condo on the beach, Thanksgiving week, free!
Wanted to do a villa with my girls & BF's in STJ but since we only have to pay airfare...which was cheaper than STT we will spend thousands less..can't pass it up.
Guess I won't have to write a trip report :)

Only takes a couple of Buttheads to bring down the "feel" of a forum. Easy to be a bully from a keyboard. Just ignore them and that takes away all of their fun.

My favorite is when new posters get chastised for asking a question that has been asked quite a few times in the past. If it bothers you that much than don't read it and why would you take the time to even respond.

In my experiences with travel form's, 95% of the people are great, the other 5% aren't worth anything more than a chuckle. Have met some terrific people on these forms, some we still keep in touch with.

A few years ago (2 or 3) I briefly visited the "other forum" and responded to a question about family travel.

Someone who ids themself as a local totally flew off the handle and sent me a nasty, scary email to my personal email address.

It weirded me out and I never went back.

Of course, I love, love, love it here!

Don't ever ask about helicopter trips over on that forum. I haven't been back since. And it's too bad, because the moderator, Islander, seems like a really nice guy.
