I couldn't believe not getting the double out at 3rd, sure hope someone reviews the umping from all the games.

Looks like it will be Phillies/Yanks!! Go Phillies.

Manny will be calling the limo if the Phils go up early.

That's what I was riffing about!

About the umps, painfully obvious that selection to work post season is NOT merit based, which a total joke, and needs to be changed.

that thing at third last night was a real joke! Cano is standing there w/out a foot on the bag, is tagged and called safe. THAT I don't get!

From a photo in the paper you can see that he was poorly positioned and why he couldn't see Cano's foot. Same guy was lazy on the blown tag up call, and he is the crew chief!

A few things on this:

1. Tim McClelland has the reputation within the game (managers, players, etc) of being one of the better umpires in MLB. He has notoriously SLOW ball/strike mechanics as a plate umpire, but despite that, he is well respeced.

2. Given that, the Cano/Posada call at the third base bag was possibly the worst I have ever seen.

3. The call on Melky is a difficult one...More difficult than it appears. McClelland has to watch both Torii Hunter AND the feet of Melky as he leaves...He was in a bad position (should've been down the 3rd base line towards the plate so that he would have both players in his line of sight)...From where he was standing, all he could see was Melky's upper body moving before the catch was made, though his feet did not.

Does anybody remember the Don Denkinger call in the 1985 World Series that actually cost the Cardinals a championship that year? Literally, if he doesn't blow the call in Game 6, the Cards win that series. Okay, and maybe if Jack Clark catches that popup.

Here it is...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HBrhmpyR5P0&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HBrhmpyR5P0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

My beef is this...Why (other than the Melky call) do the Yanks always seem to come out on top of these close calls in the playoffs? You can go back to the "Jeffrey Maher" HR in '96 by Jeter vs. the Orioles...Then you have the Knoblauch "ghost tag" on Offerman in 1999...The other night...And there are many inbetween. Bugs me. Go Halos.
