Hunker down and stay safe. Keep us posted here, as much as you are able to. Obviously, we are all thinking of you.

It's official, Omar is a Category 1 hurricane. It picked up a little speed, but not much at 7mph.

oops...forgot to mention, all is calm right now. No rain, no wind, just the frogs chirping and the roosters crowing.

We were told to evacuate our villa last night so that they could close it up. Fortunately, my family was able to get a room at the Westin. Unfortunately, our travelling compainions had to rush to get on the Ferry to St. Thomas as they have to fly home on Friday. My 9 year old daughter has definately had some new things to write in her journal this time - earthquake last week, hurricane this week.
Right now - cloudy with occasional showers.

Rob, maybe she'd like to post a trip report!
Stay safe - when are you all scheduled to leave?

We are scheduled to leave on Sunday. I will definately post her journal when she completes it - they are usually quite interesting, from a 9 yr old's mind.
My wife has been blogging the trip so far at

Barnbob, glad you were able to get into the westin. I wonder what they would have suggested if the Westin had no rooms left?
Where were you staying?
Stay safe you guys!!

They wanted us to leave St. John on one of the last ferry's (10PM) and go find a place in St. Thomas. I basically had to plead with the extremely nice clerk at the desk of the Westin to get a room. They closed the bottom floor rooms and also needed rooms to support the staff that could not get back to St. Thomas and were needed. People have been very accomodating considering the circumstances.
PS - I am not responsible for any ill behaviour or posts on my wifes blog. I plead the fifth (even though I am Canadian)

Spooky looking at the Cruz Bay web cam showing a deserted ferry dock and the STT web cam showing the bay completely empty with no vessels....
Praying Omar heads further east and misses the VI's. Stay Safe!!
