I have told it before, and it seems as if I need to tell it again:
My hubby is not a lightweighter, and he always wears Speedos on the beach. I don’t think, he will be nicer in shorts, and I understand that Spedoos must be more convenient than wet shorts slapping on the legs. So please stop offending big men in Speedos!!

I think you are right Anthony about the cultural issue. Here in DK it’s mostly the young men, who are wearing bathing shorts, some of the shorts with a length to the knees. I can’t stop thinking how weird it must look, when only the bottoms of the legs are sunburned?? 
Hubby and I had a laugh when we visited VG. It was the only beach, we had visited with many people on, and then we for the first time realized that hubby was the only man, we have seen in Speedos in the whole vacation.
The story about Speedo and getting a ticket reminds me about once we visited a beach in Aquaba in Jordan. I couldn’t understand, why the men very obviously were looking after me. Even though I was a little younger than now, and my bikini perhaps wasn’t so big, I was not used to all these eyes on me. But suddenly we found out why. I was the only woman on the beach!!
We left and on our way we got into conversation with a young man, who could tell that it was forbidden for women to visit the beach. I never forget this experience; I could have got a ticket or been put in prison.

It must be a European (or not an American) thing. My 70+ year old German father thinks nothing of his tiny, tiny red Speedo.
Because I grew up seeing the non-American male relatives wearing Speedos, I don't really think about it anymore but the first time we were all on vacation together, I thought my husband was going to choke on his beer when Dad pranced down to the beach.

Alot of men on Fort Lauderdales beach are wearing speedos and I think it's because men are closet nudists, as my husband is...it's as close as they can get without being arrested.
And no...this was not the nude beach in Fort lauderdale and there were men of every size wearing them.

When we were in Greece in '03, S/O wanted to film the topless European women. I told him they wouldn't like him pointing his camera at them, a little too obvious. He had a big grin on his face the 15 days we were there! It was really strange to me, a German woman at our villa sunbathed topless but put her top on to get in the pool????

And yes, I neither don't like, if you cannot see, if the man is wearing a Speedo or not.
Hubby's Speedos are models like trunks, and we didn’t feel that anyone was laughing, it was only me! But perhaps other people were just polite and talked about it later on. Doesn’t bother hubby.
It’s so interesting to see the different culture between the Americans and the Europeans. What you tell, Greyhoundmom, about the German woman is very common here. When I am sunbathing, I often do it topless (not if I’m the only one, and if I’m near other people, only if I’m laying on my stomach), but when I’m going out to have a bath, I take the top on – leaving my private room!
