I think Shipwreck Landing has fried shrimp. But, with the loss of Fish Trap is there any place in Cruz Bay that has fried shrimp? My family and friends must find a place that has fried shrimp. Otherwise, it looks like we might be cooking it on our own at the villa. I know many people who enjoyed the fried shrimp at Fish Trap.

I couldn't tell from the article if they owned THE STJ car rental or A STJ car rental. Not sure on that. For some reason I remembered the owners of THE St John Car Rental having different names, but I could be wrong.

I was looking forward to both of these places being open when we returned this year. Hopefully someone else will fill their shoes.

I think more people are going to STJ, but in these economic times I know we are planning to eat at the villa more often than at restaurants. I know it hurts the economy, but I can't think of anywhere cheaper I want to go for vacation.

I believe they own "St. John Car Rental." The ads for Fish Trap/Stone Terrace/St. John Car Rental are always linked. That car rental business must be profitable. I know our friends called 3 months in advance and couldn't get a car at St. John Car Rental for last week.

Stone Terrace seems perfectly set up for a restaurant---I would think someone else will lease that space for use as a restaurant. The Fish Trap space could be used for many things---not necessarily a restaurant. Sorry for my rampant speculation.

With the ridiculous property tax increases, huge utility bills and rising cost of food everwhere I can see the difficulties restaurants are facing especially on St. John. Look for more closings throughout the whole country this year for many businesses.

St John Car Rental is very popular. I was impressed when we used them last year.

They do own it. I guess I totally misunderstood who the owners were. Just ignore me. I'm a dope.

From what I understand, the owners are ready to 'retire' and just don't want the hassle of owning a restaurant anymore. They own the buildings and would rather just collect a rent check.

Offers have been made on the restaurant, but nothing so far.

Still Open

Post by madelon »

FYI Right now The Fish Trap (which is doing over 150 dinners per night) and the Stone Terrace are open. If you would like to support the employees, go and eat there NOW.

There are NO plans for the owners to close the St. John Car Rental, Inc.

Anyone who wants to make an offer on the Stone Terrace, it is still for sale!

Terrible news. Every year for years Stone Terrace has been so consistently good. Consistency is such a rare thing.

Albert and Lonnie Willis are wonderful people. They like to be able to travel. I remember them getting all excited about going down under a few years back.
They own Boulon Center and also St. John Car Rental.
I think since their son moved over to STT to run a restaurant, they would just like to focus on the care rental and being landlords.
They have been on STJ for at least 30yrs I think or more.........

I have not talked to them so this is all jmho.

The Fish Trap was the very first restaurant we ate at over 16 years ago. I remember sitting there thinking....wow, I'm really in the Virgin Islands. It has a lot of memories for us. Even though it is not our favorite, we have had many good meals there. We didn't make it there last week and I guess it will be closed when I go back in Aug. We wanted to try Warfside Bistro, but forgot to make reservations. That place was really busy. We ended up at Rhumblines and we were amazed at how wonderful everything was. Our best meal of the week. I would think Stone Terrace would remain a restaurant. It's location is so perfect for dining.

I was supposed to stop-by Stone Terrance last week and seek out am employee, a friend of a friend, to say "HI" (Hi Keltron from Jeannette). It appeared to be quite busy everytime I tried to get near it. (Cyp - Rhumblines is my favorite.) Ali~
STJ - I "get it"
