It is actually kind of funny. If you ask a question that has been asked before, people jump all over you. If you give your opinion and some disagrees, they argue with you. If you answer a question that you think is correct, a local will jump all over you and tell you that you know nothing. It is so ridiculous sometimes. I read it for entertainment.

Hi coco...welcome. This is a really nice forum.

There doesn't seem to be that much posting on the "other forum".

Everybody here seems nice and they actually have fun!! Wow...that's a concept.

What is this "other forum?"

Actually, I think I probably post there, but need some confirmation. If you don't want to post it, I'll take it in a PM.

LOL @ Xislandgirl's "people jump all over you." in the *other* forum.

It only takes one person to start that and the rest pick up on it for some reason.

Let's go over there and stir them up

The forum people are talking about is www.vinow.com. I didn't think, it was so bad, but I have only read in it for some month. Anyway I feel better with this one, more active people here and everybody very kind and a lot of fun too. Though I have to admit that I hesitated a little writing here. People seems as a big family and as an “outsider” I probably wouldn’t have done it, if I haven’t received a PM from one of the members, who advised me to try.

I read and post on both forums, probably more on the vinow forum than here although I used to spend more time over here. They're different, but I really don't find one superior to the other. It's interesting to see people's allegiance to one or the other. We recently went to Virgin Gorda so I've been spending more time on the TTOL BVI forum than either of these USVI forums. That forum has been very helpful and it's been interesting to experience being a forum newbie again. Folks there were extremely patient, welcoming and helpful.

I don't think anyone thinks that one forum is superior, it is a matter of comfort.

I love it here. I love the people, I love the "vibe", I love how everyone is always helpful and encouraging. I find the other forum to be "colder" and without a member "connection". Maybe because I don't post much or maybe because I don't mesh w/ the other members as well.
Whatever the reason, I think that this forum is better for me; it is comfortable and always makes me smile. That is all I can really ask of a cyberspace "home"!

Hi, I actually changed my name from the other forum. I was Terri there. This one is nicer. I have found it nicer than other forums that I have tried to visit to plan other trips too.
Welcome!

I read and spend more time here but now that I'm not just someone who's read about it on the Internet, I feel slightly qualified to answer some questions over there without getting my chops busted. Of course, they rarely talk about STJ, preferring STX and STT (which is fine, just not my ball of wax), so I don't have much to contribute.

Plus, I don't like to stir the pot and with some people there, simply saying "hello" will do that.

Ironically, they were friendly to me at first (maybe silently laughing behind my back?) but closer to my trip they got a little cantankerous and someone suggested I come here. I'm glad I did.

There are some great people over there, and I've had people tell me that they don't understand why a select few act like children, but the vibe here is much better. I've never really understood how people could get so uptight talking about such a laid back place.

I've seen alot of the same names on both forums, but it seems like this forum is moderated more. I seriously don't believe that alot of what has happened on the other forum would happen here. There were weeks that went by when fighting just went on and on and on. Very very nasty posts remained on the board and that just fed the fire.

Lulu...I agree with you on your post. These vacation boards should be fun and I'm glad I found one.

I think my biggest problem -- which is my problem with most things in life, really -- was that you never knew what would set someone off. What would be a normally benign question would cause someone to throw a hissy fit. The worst part was that people -- especially newbies -- would ask a question and they'd just ignore them. I guess that's better than calling them stupid or telling them to take a vacation in Cancun instead.

The one thing that I see too often over there is what happens when a newbie (or veteran, for that matter) posts after they have made their arrangements and already have deposits down. Instead of supporting someone's vacation decisions and trying to help them with what they ask about, there is often a feeding frenzy about what a really bad decision the poster has made and what they SHOULD have done differently. How does negativity help anyone? It certainly doesn't help the poster who is so excited about their trip until they get cold water dumped all over their choices by folks supposedly "in the know" about the destination. And, so what if the same question has been asked and answered before? Aren't we all here to talk about our favorite subject?? (Sorry, off the rant now, )

There are still some very good people over there and I will continue to help folks via PM when I have something to offer but there's a small group who really make it uncomfortable to post. There's some spillover starting onto the Trip Advisor VI boards, too, which is unfortunate.

Things are much friendlier over here - sometimes I wish there was a bit more talk about the rest of the VI, but for really in-depth STJ and general VI vacation issues and info, this is the best place - even if there does seem to be waaaayyy too many Packer fans about. GO BEARS!!!

I hear that! Believe me, it's not easy being a Bears fan and living in Wisconsin. Brett Favre, Brett Favre, Brett Favre...makes me want to puke.
