HA!!
So true about Hilton Head Island!!! Was just there last week. I DEFINITELY do not snorkel there. Don't even get in the water along the SC coast, in fact.
Good luck getting a taker for the BB!

Hey Papabou - I just saw this thread! I just signed up for the trip on 7/16. I'll be there for my wedding and honeymoon, so my wife-to-be and I will be joining you. Sounds like a hoot, can't wait. I've enjoyed reading your crazy trip reports and it'll be great to meet you.
See you then!

congrats ehren on upcoming marriage. i look fwd to meeting you and bride. hope wedding is after our happy journey since once you see what 48 yrs of marriage to our respective wives has done to us, one of you might bolt! as a seasoned (well more welldone) stj visitor would be happy to respond with suggestions for stj activity or answer questions prior to circumnavigation of island, i mean if you plan to have any spare time outside. sure a lot to see and do. we can also give you a marital tip - if wife aint' happy, nobody is happy!
when do ya'll (unisexual) arrive, marry, leave the island, & where you staying?
ok folks, only 2 places left & when those 2 seats are gone, the trip's closed out. except of course cap bryan would be happy to arrange another boat if there is exceptional interest. me i'd love to cocaptain on the nina to be followed by the peons on the pinta. if there are novice snorkelers out there afraid to venture out with captain adventure and his trusty pal mack, please reconsider. though we know the wonders of stj and her surrounding seas, we were once licensed professionals and mack never goes in the ocean w/o his bright yellow life vest. boy's still got stuff to do and no chances for him. we need some fresh meat to fall for our goofy crap and who won't correct us if we mistake a barracuda for a tarpon.
can't wait to tell mack when he gets back from hh. hell the boy might go out and buy a new body suit to show to newly weds. i'm fine with that as long as it's not royal blue like last summers.

Hi papabou,
We get married on the 7th, so we will be stuck by then
We'll just enjoy your stories of years being married. On island until the 23rd and staying on Ajax peak.
We've been a few times already so the basics of stj are pretty well ingrained. relax a lot, short showers, roll with the punches and let the good times roll. we pretty much spend our entire trip with our faces in the water looking at fish and coral. one thing - any tips for rough snorkel entries? Still trying to get the hang of that and are interested in trying things like haulover north where i've heard it's rocky (or urchin-y) getting in.
Sounds like you guys are veteran snorkelers. We just started trying harder to reach places last year, going to Tektite and Yawzi point. Waterlemon is an old standby and favorite, but I can get there by land. Looking forward to seeing others this year that I can't get to so easily by walking. Maybe rocks in Salt Pond, others on South shore, Whistling Cay (always wanted to do that one) - and am particularly excited about Newfound Bay.
Take it easy, and we'll see you soon.

Re: join mack & papabou for 7/16 snorkel trip
morning ehrin. by the 16th yall will have been married over a week and probably still speaking. hope you have a beautiful wedding day. sounds like your interests about same as ours. bryan says he defers to what guests want so guess we have votes to set agenda.
sounds like you got the island down but there maybe a few words of wisdom a couple of old f*rts could give you about life whether you want or not. never stayed on ajax but have stayed on mamey once and bordeaux twice and loved proximity to eastern side of stj and sunrises though missed sunsets and st john lights. mack and i will be back in cruz bay this trip for evening convenience of wining (happy hour) & dining. fortunately we are both early risers (we're slow sleepers so we go to bed early) so should be able to make bruise ship dock by 8:30. don't let bryan leave w/o us.
assure your bride to be we're just two funloving harmless old guys with an acute sense of propriety when appropriate. we both have daughters and granddaughters and our bark is far worse than bite.
it will be a great trip!
