Return destination?
The reason I asked this question is that I visit VI year after year - but I have other places where I would love to return. It's just not easy unless I skip going to VI or because I dread long flights at this point of my life. Also, I know many folks here are VI lovers and I'm really curious where else on the Earth they wish to revisit.
I would love to visit French Polynesia again. We went to Rangiroa and Fakarava - talk about sharks everywhere we snorkeled! We met some wonderful folks over there, many of whom spearfish. I was amazed with their ability to free dive for so long and their agility underwater. Admired their knowledge of sea life and ability to co-exist with the environment. It's also my regret that makes me want to go back there. We never visited an island like Moorea. Atolls are really nice but they are flat. I wish I had seen some islands with more dramatic landscapes. It's unlikely we'll go back there. It's a looong trip from the northeast and $$$$! My wish probably will have to remain a "forever-wish".
My husband and I have been thinking about taking a one-week trip somewhere in the states in March. I think I'll look up the places mentioned here.

Great topic!
Places we've visited more than once:
Monterrey CA, from the redwoods up north to Big Sur southward - gorgeous!
Columbia Gorge, between Oregon and Washington, spectacular waterfalls, and the Oregon coast;
Savannah, a lovely city with tons of history, set on the river.
The Florida keys, love the party mentality of Key West!
Would love to return to Venice someday, so dreamlike, the canals and old world splendor.
Seems to be a water-centered theme!
I wonder why we continue to live in the Midwest?! (sigh)

I am so missing all my friends in Aruba. We where there twice a year and haven't been since we fell in love with St. John four years ago.
We are talking about returning and it may be reality on Christmas. It is just hard getting someone to take care of my dogs while we are gone during that week.

Fiji & Dominica
Fiji to dive, and some other islands in Asia as well. Dominica, and I will get there next year, from St John, my soon to be new home. Its rain forest green, pristine waters and diving and very, very, very low key.
Except for Virgin Gorda, we keep going back to Thailand. You just have to pick the right place/island as it's a lot of development in certain places. But when you find it, it's simply wonderful. And you get a lot for your money. You get a meal for a few dollars.
One place my husband and I really would love to return to is the Cook islands. Visited Rarotonga and Aitutaki and it was heaven. A similar type of islands as Tahiti, but not as expensive.
Would also love to go back to Fiji to dive, as I didn't dive then. The friendliest people we ever met anywhere there.
And finally New Zealand. Been there twice, but we plan to go back. Why does it have to be as far as you can get from us?

So funny! I was coming here to ask everyone if they could pick one place to travel to besides STJ where would it be and I found this topic. Thanks!
In the states we really loved Carmel which is very close to Monterey, CA. Such a quaint little town with lots of galleries and outdoor cafes.
We really fell in love with Southern Germany and Prague. I would combine those into 1 trip since they are pretty close and easy to get to by train. The Bavarian country side was really beautiful, the people were friendly, the food was amazing and the beer was plentiful! I have the most amazing pictures of Old Town after it rained one night in Prague. They didn't speak much English there but it didn't matter. That wasn't a problem in Germany though.
The one place that I think I could go back to over and over and over is Virgin Gorda. It owns my heart. Enough said.
We are trying to plan a trip for August and I don't know where we should go. I would like to go someplace we haven't been. We were thinking Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Thailand or Japan. If we go the beach route it would be Costa Rica or Kauai. I have been to Kauai but hubby hasn't. Anyone have any thoughts on these?

Ditto Nic with Venice and all of Italy and would love to go back to Ireland and the California coast. But there are also so many places I haven't been and would love to see. I'd love to see France and the rest of Europe most of all.
