I was an optician for about 35 years,[in a previous life], and I always bring eyeglass parts, screws, nosepads, and tools. For people on STJ, until about 1 1/2 years ago, there was no optical shop, so someone in Coral Bay had to drive across the island and take the ferry to STT to get their glasses adjusted.
In 2005 the good Homeland Security folks at Dulles took all of my tools because , as always, I had them in my carry on bag. They told me that I could get out of line and mail them home to myself. Yeah, right. The line was out the door and the flight overbooked, and I would have to get in the back of the line. The Klingon Bastards took my German and Austrian made tools. Little tiny eyeglass pliers! They said that I could take a seat apart with them! I'm so glad if everybody feels safer now. Anyway, if I check in my bags, I'll still bring that stuff. Makes for a lot of light bar tabs!
