Can I walk?
Can I walk?
We will be spending our first night on St. Thomas before heading over to St. John. We are looking at possibly staying at the Best Western Emerald Inn for the convenience factor. Does anyone know if you can walk to the hotel from the airport? We have passed the hotel several times going to the airport. It seems (at least in my head) too close to actually take a taxi? Anyone have any firsthand knowledge? We will have 2 kids with us ages 10 & 7 who are seasoned travelers and can hold their own w/ luggage, carry ons etc. Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.
I think you conceivably could but why? There is no distance too short to take a cab. I would not in a million years schlep luggage and two kids to a hotel that is a short cab ride away. You are on vacation - don't add a complication you don't need. Get off the plane, have a rum punch, gather your luggage and cheerfully request a cab. There won't be any hassle and you will be safe and at your hotel in a heartbeat.
It is walkable, but there is NO SHADE the entire distance, so it can be extremely hot. I've seen a few people walking with one roller bag (I've never done it with luggage), and they don't look too happy by the time they reach the Best Western. I would only attempt it if my flight comes in very early morning or early evening when it's a bit cooler.

We walked from the BW Carib Beach to the airport. but we drove to the BW Emerald Beach. The Emerald Beach is at the end of the runway...so it's pretty close to a mile back to the terminal. If you're not used to the heat and humidity, it would be a pretty brutal walk hauling luggage. They had a shuttle to the airport last summer. I would assume that it still runs. I don't remember if there was a fee or I just tipped the driver. BTW,IMO, the Emerald Beach is a whole lot nicer than the Carib Beach.
It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere!
