We are getting the effects of Gus now, here in Wisconsin, so it's not all that crazy to say that a storm can move north and wreak havoc.

Any word from the bloggers in the TCI???? I checked today and didn't see an update...

I hope all is well for them and their four legged friend.

Marcia (Mrs Pete) - I've been wondering about them also! I'm addicted to their site now. I'm sure they are beside themselves right now, I can't even imagine. Here is the website that I have been reading updates on concerning their area:

Thanks Anthony, I just checked their blog. Ike is one scary storm and it bearing down on the TCI now, right after Hanna hitting them is a nightmare. No time to regroup, just barely enough time to find a safe place to ride out another, even worse, storm.

I really, really feel for all of the people there.

I read their updated comments today...looks like they lost their boat in the storm.

:-(

We'll see what Ike does to the islands now...

Hanna is moving faster than they thought.. we've had 40-50 sustained gusts for about an hour...should be getting cranked up here pretty quick.. we're getting a big band now...I was hoping to sleep through it.'
....I guess I'll just be "unsophisticated" and "obsessed with "AL-CO-Hall" and deal with it...we're safe and the bar is open!..I hope Sun4yourSoul is OK.. looks like it gonna come ashore in her front yard..I wish Mike Sidel and Jim Cantori would go home!!

WOW! I have never been there but it looks beautiful even after all that they have been through! They are just getting slammed this year! We were talking about that last night! We have freinds from there that live here now.

He was talking about the Hatians that don't want to ask for help because they are there illegally. We have some of that here too. The Mexicans that are here illegally would not go on the buses to be evacuated even though they were not checking any papers. They were afraid that there would be people checking where they got off.

You have to feel bad for them even though they are not here illegally. (I do not want this to turn into a place to discuss illegal aliens!)

I don't know - I am not really that familiar with that blog - first time I saw it was when Sherban flagged it above.
Nope but we are good friends with Jay and Sandy who do own Bottle Creek Lodge. :-)

The "Gringo's" seem to be a couple with grown children (not living there with them), and a funny little dog!

Hi Sherb,

Thanks for the welcome. I was following some backlinks (computer geek anaysis stuff) and thought I'd stop in and say hello.

Yes, we are very sad about the boat - it's an important part of our lifestyle here. But so many, especially in Grand Turk, lost so much more. It's hard to feel sorry for ourselves. All told, we actually were very lucky. The last rumor that we heard was that over 40 boats were lost in Provo alone. I'm sure the number for TCI is much, much higher.

But we'll get her back together as best we can. Gringo is already dismantling the engine piece by piece. He is amazing with this kinda stuff (thank heavens!).

Our Minister of Immigration, the Honorable Galmo Williams, gave clemency to any illegals and urged them to move to shelters and seek help.

The problem is whether or not that message actually gets to the illegals. Most of them live in the bush and don't have televisions or radios.

There's a Haitian guy, Joseph, that does work on some of the homes on our road and we often pick him up to give him a ride to the main road. On Friday before Ike, we picked him up and he had no clue that we were expecting a Category 4 hurricane the next day. The good news is that there have been no reported deaths.

Hi!

Just want to say I'm sorry for the loss of your boat and the damage on all the islands. We visited Provo and Grand Turk 2006 and stayed in Turtle tail area (in a studio in an American couples house) and in Bohio Dive resort (GT). Please tell me little more about the damage in Grand Turk (if you have any info).

La Gringa - I've been following this thread and have read a little of your blog. I just want to say that I'm happy to hear that you 2 Gringos are ok and that no deaths have been reported! I hope we'll see more of you around the forum! :D
