FlaGeorge - funny that you made that post as the wind just scared the cra$ out of me. I think we are getting some of the outer bands of Ike now. It makes me so worried about the people it's heading towards as we are pretty far from it right now and are feeling it here!

Those of you in it's path, please keep us posted as we will all be praying for you and thinking about you.

My thoughts are with everyone in Ike's path. Even those of you (Elizabeth & Cat) who are getting the outer bands. That's bad enough!

Let me just warn anyone in Ike's main path...get the he$$ out of there. He is blowing up serious winds here!!!

The Lake is higher than normal, full of whitecaps (so is the river), and going over the seawall already. That happens with big storms here and those levees by the lake are not the ones that busted in Katrina.

I can tell you that it is really freaking me out that we are not really even close and the weather is as bad as it is here. I am truly worried about those of you in his main path.

I will be praying for ya'll!

It is really blowing & raining here in Baton Rouge, too. We are getting much more than I thought we would. It has already knocked out some newly restored power & traffic lights (AGAIN!). The lines at the gas stations here started yesterday evening & the lines are still bad this a.m. We already have a lot of water everywhere from the rain last night because of the debris from Gustav being piled up over drains & in ditches.

We have freinds in Houston. I talked to them last night & they were staying. I hope everyone is safe.

I'm out of harm's way down here just north west of Corpus Christi. We're still expecting 50 mph winds. I've got a housefull of refugees...my wife's family from Port Lavaca...which was ground zero yesterday. They're thankful Ike will pass to the north, but Port Lavaca is still expecting hurricane force winds and power outages. My mother (86 yrs old) evacuated to College Station with my sister, but now she is west of Austin at my sister's vacation house. Ike is supposed to hit the College station area after landfall with 75-100 mph winds. I hope everyone in the Houston area stays safe!!!

Just got off the phone with my daughter in Houston...so far everyone in her neighborhood has stayed...I believe the mayor asked that as long as you weren't in an evacuation zone, not to leave so the roads would not be in such a gridlock and people who need to evacuate could, without sitting in traffic going nowhere. Airports closed at noon. Things do not look good in Galveston..The surf crashing along the seawall is really scary looking and Ike was still 168 miles away...We were just there in August and I can't imagine the devastation this could bring...
My prayers are with everyone in harms way....
Cypressgirl....stay safe...I hear alot of people in the Woodlands evacuated because of the fear that Ike will be heading there....

We've evacuated to Dallas. Our home is on the coast around Port Arthur where they expect a 20 ft storm surge. The seawall is only 14 ft and our home is on 13 ft, so looks like we may have somewhere up to 7 feet of water in the house-- if there is a house! We're glued to the weather channel, sick to our stomachs.

It's hard to hear about it happening to other people, but when it's actually happening to you it's just unreal. All my furniture... my piano I've had since I was 8... my hope chest my husband gave me when we first were married that's full of my two childrens special clothes when they were small... everything I've collected in 35 years of marriage... I'm just sick about it all. (and apparently a pack rat! :? )

I don't mean to be melodramatic-- it's just hitting me right now and I came online and saw all the well wishes from the great people on this message board. Thank you so much! I'm still praying for a miracle and Ike(BOO,HISSS) turns due south and fizzles out.

Keep us in your prayers,

Paula

Paula....it's not being melodramatic at all. Even though they are 'material things' they still are priceless - especially to you - because of the sentimental value for you, your history & your family. My daughter's Mother-in-law is here in Dallas with all of us & she lives near the Woodlands. Our thoughts/prayers are with you as we too are waiting & watching to see where it will go.
Stay safe everyone!

We are about 70 miles from the coast about a mile from Cypressgirl. We are all hunkered down with family that evacuated from a low lying coastal area. They are predicting 90-95 MPH winds even this far from the coast.

We are supposed to be leaving for St. John on October 8th so we are sure hoping Ike is kind to us and does not keep us from getting to go.

I have a friend in Houston who said he has a room reserved in Austin, but the last I heard from him, he was still trying to decide whether to leave or not. Hope all is ok for everyone!
