Flight Decision Making
Flight Decision Making
I am currently debating flight options for our trip in 9 months. Considering the current situation I think the norms I usually go with are not to be counted on.
So far here are a couple of options:
1. Keep waiting to see if FF tickets become available (I currently have about 120,000 miles - enough for the 4 of us if I can snag the lowest rate ones) as the inventory is fluctuating EVERY day but I have yet to see the actual flights we want come up. ($60 total if I can swing it)
2. Book tickets for the exact dates we want at $650 a pop. ($2600 OUCH)
3. Book tickets for our actual dates + 1 day (we'd stay our last night on STT) for $440 a pop. ($1760 still owie)
4. Take 2 ff tickets at the higher rate (one adult and one child on Delta) and book the other two tickets through a different airline at $650 a pop. ($1300)
5. Wait and pray either the low rate FF tickets come up or tickets drop to about $400 a piece. I could stomach $1200 for the four of us.
Usually I am all about waiting and stalking the low rate FF miles and so far have been very lucky with that. We've managed 9 RT tickets this way so far.
Patience is not my strong suit. I like certainty.

Trust me if this was an option I would be all over it ... but alas it is not. There will be another grownup trip to STJ for us, just not this one. I am thinking by the time Belly Flop is 4 he will be FINE to stay with his Aunt and Uncle and three cousins for a week. I just can't do that to them in the 2's....SJfromNJ wrote:You left one out:
2 FF 1st class tickets, leave the kids with grandma, party like rock stars! Only kidding, Your kids deserve to go to STJ too.
Good luck, tough choice. I alway try to use my FF miles whenever possible.
