Amy and the boys on STJ: Day 2
Amy and the boys on STJ: Day 2
Even though I'd had a really long day on our travel day, I still always wake up early when I'm on the island. I was the first up at 6:30, and this was the view from the porch:

And here's our best buddy Frankie saying hi (I think that's BB the cat in the background, and BB and Frankie always had a tussle over the "best porch spot" every morning!):

I made coffee, cut up the mango to put on cereal, and gazed at the view. The gardens are beautiful at Luna Vista, so I took some photos.

I was back to my favorite place on earth! I was too tired to go to the grocery store on our arrival day, so the plan today was to drive over to Cruz Bay, drop hubby off for his massage, and run some errands. After his early exit due to back pain during our last trip, I decided to treat him (late birthday present) to a massage Sat. morning by Juli Culver of Healing Touch Massage. Juli has an office in the Lumberyard, so the plan was to drop him off, head to Low Key to rent fins and prescription mask for hubby, stop in at St. John Spice, get supplies at Starfish, then go home for lunch and head for the beach.
Everyone slooowly woke up (a change from last time--big difference between 11 year olds and 13 year olds), and I made pancakes and bacon for the boys; hubs and I had cereal with the yummy mango. We tended to have big breakfasts, since 13 year olds are hungry as soon as they are out of bed.
We got our stuff together and enjoyed seeing the sights in full daylight on our way to CB. Just a note on parking: even though we rented on STT, we parked at Mongoose every time we went into CB and never had a problem finding lots of spaces. We always stopped somewhere in Mongoose to make it legit (usually Deli Grotto), and I'm sure low season had a lot to do with it, but parking was never an issue for our whole stay.
The boys and I did the rental at Low Key, and stopped at STJ Spice. No Ruth, but Ron was there! And so was the mystified new assistant who had witnessed Pipanale's show--she was still in shock! We managed to score 3 mosquito zappers, a brand new big jar of Cruz Bay Grill Rub, a couple of hot sauces, and various T-shirts. I love that store! We then got all of our supplies at Starfish, and D sent a postcard to his guitar teacher as promised, then we went back to pick up hubby. He said Juli was one of the best therapists he'd ever been to, and he was feeling great. Remember for future trips: massage for hubby with Juli!
We went back to LV for lunch, and had mac and cheese for the boys, tomato and cheese sandwiches for hubby and me. We decided to head for Trunk, still one of the most beautiful beaches for me. It was gorgeous there in the afternoon, and we didn't notice any skeeters on the beach. Went for a quick snorkel, lazed in the water, and generally thanked our lucky stars that we were back!

D snorkeling:

Our companion throughout the whole snorkel:

We were really happy with our new camera, a Canon Powershot G9 with underwater housing. We'd only had terrible disposables before and had no good snorkeling photos at all from previous trips, so I was excited to be able to take some really good underwater shots. I am not a big exercise-type, but I absolutely love snorkeling and I could do it every single day. There's something about the peacefulness and beauty underwater that can't be matched anywhere else for me.
The sun started to set, so we packed up our stuff and headed back to LV for dinner. Hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, salad made with Josephine's organic spicy greens (Starfish had them there), and cookies for dessert. We played a fun game of Scrabble (a regular activity during the week), watched more Olympics, and hit the hay.
Tomorrow: Francis, Skinny's, and the Beach Bar!
