American Airlines

Post by bchbum82 »

Just found this out:

The following customers will not be charged a service fee to check a bag provided the bag is within the weight allowance:

"Customers originating travel in the U.S., U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or Canada and traveling to an international destination beyond the U.S., U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or Canada"

Does this mean there is not a baggage check fee if flying to USVI???

I read it to say you are not charged if you are travelling internationally. That is, beyond the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Or I guess North America as Canada is included. But not Mexico. Odd?

I flew from Orange County, CA to Orlando on American 2 weeks ago and checked one bag. I asked the lady who was directing everyone to what line they needed to be in and she said it was $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second one. When I got up to the counter, there was no charge. I still don't really understand it, but I go with the flow.

hmmmm... it was through work, so I'm not sure when the ticket was purchased. But you're probably right about it being before the rules changed.

I think if you purchased them in March you are ok; it's just since the new rule that you have to pay.

Do they make people pay at the counter? Doesn't that take up MORE time???

I know I won't know till the night before I travel how many bags I am bringing.

I do know that if you purchased your tickets prior to the baggage fee being added (May 15 I think?) you shouldn't be charged. I flew AA in June from JFK-STT but purchased the tickets in March and wasn't charged the fee.
