Something I hope I got across is that we do not want anyone's pity. This was surely a trip for the ages, but, I've been to St John 3 times since 2004 and have spent 2 of my last 4 birthdays there.

The lady on the Reef Bay hike called us "blessed" (Mostly because I think she was a dope), but a "bad" week on St John (if you ask me) beats a good week anyplace else.

This trip may not have gone according to plan, but how can you complain? I wasn't at work! I was on St John with my lovely wife and 2 best friends.

I just hope you're all entertained. And, please feel free to PM me before you travel. Several people have told me that they don't want to be ANYWHERE near an airport, an island, a water pump, a bug, a house, a condo, a beach, an ocean when I'm due to hit the friendly skies.

As I say...It's my life...you just get to enjoy it. And...none of it was exaggerated. What's the fun in that?

Felt your pain...all of it!

Lived though those nasty flying varmits last Oct in of all places...Aruba. They had an atypical rainy spell and our room was invested and it was a horrid experience. Wouldn't wish it on anybody.

With your sense of humor, I'm sure some fun squeaked in, however that villa of yours left quite a bit to be desired. They ought to give you half off or a free stay in the future. I guess I might've had to have taken advantage of the "open bar" in first class with the nasty turns your trip took! The day after you got home sounds like a painful one!

Entertaining read! :) :) :)

Great report - thank you for taking the time to write it and hope to meet you next time you are here :)

I hate those bugs - we have had them twice since we moved here and the only thing you can do (for you future travellers should it happen to you) is turn off all lights (tv included) and go to bed  The next day all will be good again :)

The owner kinda "blamed us" for having it happen. We were told that if we hadn't had any lights on in the house, the bugs never would have come.

Thanks for that. Trust me. It's a lesson I only needed to be taught once. It took me longer to realize that shellfish and dairy don't agree with me. (Why do I keep pooping?? (BARF!))

I really have to get a life and stop reading these your trip reports and your website. Has anyone ever told you that you should be a comedian??

I DO have to stick up for STT somewhat though. I hate Charlotte Amalie with a vengence. It's crowded, I hate the shopping thing and the cruisers.

Generalizing STT isn't fair. If you haven't been all over the island then you haven't seen what we've seen. It's actually quite beautiful if you know where to go. Comparing the 2 islands just doesn't work. I know STJ is beautiful, but I just wanted to stick up for my little piece of paradise a little bit

Pipanale, sorry to hear about your water problems you had. I know the feeling. During our 2007 stay at Dream Come True (rented through CV) we didn’t have water for our first two days. We had to fill garbage cans with pool water in order to flush the toilets. However, CV was at our villa trying to fix the problem for several hours each day. Needless to say the problem was finally fixed and they said they would “take care of us” because of the problem we experienced. We didn’t even have to ask for anything, but they refunded us two days rental which was over $1,000 and brought us a huge cheese and fruit tray.

OK...here are my problems with what you have said.

1: You admitted to having read my stupid site
2: Despite this, you have a problem with me making a broad generalization utterly un-based in factual knowledge. Have the many hours spent reading my drivel taught you nothing? Please...let me go poke about my site for a moment to find one of my gems:

Eh...too lazy to look but you get the point. IF you're coming to my site for factual knowledge, you've made a wrong turn on the internet.

But, thank you for the kind words. And no...nobody needs me to try to be a comedian. I'm really not that funny. As I'm learning, I'm just an idiot who somehow cursed every god out there. All I do it report on my life. It's only funny for you people because you're not a balding idiot or married to one.

Entertaining for sure. Favorite one liner, "The fuckers in the back got crackers." It has become a family joke. My husband shares your outlook on first class travel. My guess is that there's never a dull moment when you're around. That's a good thing. Too many folks take life too seriously. Definitely a memorable trip for you. Thanks for sharing your island adventure. Ali~

Actually, I am married to a balding idiot, maybe that's why I like your writing style so much.

Pipinale, I had an encounter with the bugs from hell on our first trip too. I thought I was going to DIE. It was our last night. We had left a (dim!) light on in the bedroom, and we came back to find that the entire room was COVERED with bugs! Everywhere! They were on the bed, all over the walls, crawling on the floor...it was awful. If I recall correctly, I think I started screaming, but I have kind of blocked it out. We only had the one bedroom to sleep in (there was another one downstairs but we had checked it out earlier and it was full of spiders). We smashed and swept up the best we could, had a drink in the dark and went to bed. URGH. Just thinking about it gives me the heebie jeebies.

Thanks for the report--and the coconut dance, of course.
