Wednesday in Coral Bay

Post by Randy in MD »

Dark clouds are streaming across the sky from southeast to northwest and there's a blustery breeze coming over our porch along with occasional spritzes of rain. A first time or very occasional visitor to St. John would not like the weather this week. There are tropical disturbances everywhere and St. John is between all of them. Hanna is still circling to the west of us, there's a wave passing over us and Ike is approaching from the east, though it looks as if he'll pass safely to the north of us on Friday. The boats in Coral Harbor are all pointed to the southeast, like small weathervanes in the sea. The children at Guy Benjamin School are all inside this morning and the sound of the birds is muffled by the breeze whipping through the trees. Even the goats and sheep at the ballfield seem to be huddling for protection. And so another day in paradise begins, and we'll go with the flow. A stop at Josephine's is on tap along with a ride into the big town of Cruz Bay for a little business and some lunch. After that, we'll see which way the breeze blows us...

We had a cold front come through yesterday. It was 46 this morning. Our goats are huddling for sure. :)
Enjoy your trip into the big city!

It's so nice you have your own home on STJ so you can enjoy this weather, knowing you'll be back soon when the sun is shining! :)

Rain, wind, whatever... I'd still rather be there!

Sounds like a wonderful day on tap! We were there last December during TS Olga....that was the first time we had experienced any bad weather other than a few showers!

Rain, wind, lightning, thunder and rum have punctuated the afternoon and evening. Despite and perhaps because of all that we managed to still take several dips in the pool between downpours and light the Weber grill for a pork roast. Anybody have the Mudcrutch album? What great tunes... Tomorrow should be brighter, with Hanna finally pulling away, and Ike still on the horizon. Ike's eye's closest approach to St. John is expected to be over 300 miles away on Saturday morning. That's when we'll be back on the car barge bound for St. Thomas. Could be a wild ride as there's a chance we'll have some pretty good winds... But that's still several days away. Don't want to dwell on that quite yet...
