Tuesday in Coral Bay

Post by Randy in MD »

Some might refer to today as gloomy, but I prefer to think of it as "atmospheric". Though west of us, Hanna's outer bands are rolling over the island right now, and from looking at the radar, it appears as if the Coral Bay side is getting the brunt of it. I'm so glad we got to Maho yesterday - despite the mosquitoes. Anyway, the rain hasn't stopped us from enjoying our coffee and gazing at the sights below. This morning, along with all the animals, the sound of children playing was heard as this is the first day of classes at the Guy Benjamin School. Earlier, before it started to rain, there was a detail of men with a pickup truck removing the leftover debris from the Labor Day Party at the ballfield. Now the goats are back, reclaiming the land that they gave up yesterday for the human celebration. So what to do on a rainy day? Watch the cisterns fill? That's good... Dive into a good book? That's good too... Take a nap or two? Ahhh, that sounds marvelous...

I saw the web cams and was wondering if that was the results of Hannah. Glad to hear you are enjoying some down time in your own place! :)

Another wonderful morning. Jason and I want great weather for our trips, but when we have a stormy day, we love to sit under a covered deck/porch and watch the clouds, feel the wind and read a book. I'm loving your reports!

It's incredibly calm tonight. The rains let up in mid-afternoon and the sun made an appearance, prompting us to open our eyes, put down the books (in that order) and fall into the pool for awhile. We met friends at Aqua Bistro for drinks and dinner and acquired an excellent evening buzz. Tomato, crab and basil soup followed by fresh grouper. Oh my that was good. Met some folks from Chicago who arrived 3 weeks ago intending to put the finishing touches on their new island home near Miss Lucy's but found upon arrival that the house wasn't really ready for painting yet. Where have I heard that story before? Spoke to a writer from New York who wouldn't give us her name. Very mysterious lady who was staying about a half mile up King's Hill Road and we gave her a ride home. It was an only on St. John kind of an evening where good friends meet new friends and everyone was just so very aware of how fortunate they are to be here. The island is even smaller this time of year. Right now the stars are out and the tree frogs are our orchestra. It's a beautiful symphony...
