Elizabeth (nothintolose) and Jerry, along with Rudy & Milo (dog & cat) have arrived in Florida. She texted me in the middle of the night as they were crossing Mobile Bay and I just got off the phone with her. Said there was a TON of traffic getting out of the New Orleans area, but then it opened up and the drive wasn't all that bad. But neither of them have slept in about 24 hrs. or eaten since yesterday and they're zombiefied. Elizabeth tried to nap yesterday, but it was just too stressful to sleep. It'll be about another hour before they reach Elizabeth's aunt's house in Rosemary Beach. There's a lot of cloud cover, but not any rain yet.
Cat & Kenneth are riding it out in Lafayette. Good luck you guys! Our thoughts are with you!

I am with Nothingtolose - this forum is a great distraction from what is going on back home. My daughter & I just finished reading a few trip reports.
I don't know how people that live on the islands in the caribbean handle these storms. Like Elizabeth I have sleep less than 5 hours in the past two days and probably won't sleep at all tonight. My husband is a police officer and is assigned to work the westbank of Jefferson Parish. I told him goodbye on Saturday morning and don't know when we will see him again. I am stuck in Hattiesburg, MS with my 2 kids that keep on asking when we can go home. I can't turn the news on because everytime I do my 10 year-old starts to freakout and has a panic attack.
Please pray for all of us from Louisiana, Mississippi & Texas.

nola girl - Glad to hear you and the kids are ok. I am concerned for your husband. Please be sure to let us know he's ok after the storm.
I've been texting Elzabeth this morning and they are on high ground in the Fla panhandle, and all is ok there.
Now concerned for Cat & Kenneth in Lafayette. It looks like they're right in the path!
Keep safe everyone!

So far my husband is ok. I spoke with him at 3pm and he said it was a rough night - they are on 12 hour shifts and he is working nights. They have assigned the police to 4 local hospitals so when they aren't out patrolling they are required to stay at the assigned hospital. As he said when I spoke with him things look ok, but things didn't go down hill with Katrina until after landfall. I just cought a bit of the local news and the water is rising in Barateria Bay which is south of where he is and high tide is supposed to be at 1am. The levees there are already being overtopped.
I feel for those in Baton Rouge & Lafayette because they are getting slammed. I have family in Baton Rouge and the only comunnication we have with them is by text message. They have been without power since 8am and they have told us that it is storming and the wind is really bad.

Hey nola girl - hope you are not getting any of the bands in Hattiesburg!
Talked to my sister in Gonzales, and she said the winds were much stronger there than for Katrina or Rita. They had no power like your family.
Having no power is the reason we left again. We didn't get water during Katrina, but we had no power. I checked my answering machine and we still don't have power.
Cat and Hubby in Lafayette did well too (or had when I talked to them last while the eye was going over them) with only losing power.
I pray for the rest of the people in it's path as well as Hanna's and Ike's!
Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and well wishes, we were fortunate this time. I just hope that the fact that it wasn't as bad as predicted doesn't keep people from evacuating next time.
