AA...scary schedule changes,,I want to scream!

Post by laurie »

Thought I would check my AA reservations for Dec to make sure they had not changed since the last AA change they did not notify me of.
You guessed it,,,not only did they make the change without notification but they had us arriving in JFK the night before(we would need to stay over) and not into STT till the next evening.
I thought I would try for a Sat departure instead of the Wed departure we had planned on, no way, not in the rules to change more than a day before or after without incurring a fee. Its ok for them to inconvenience my travel, my vacation, my 30th anniversary, my hoping to spend a few nocs on Tortola before my beloved STJ.....its ok for them to make changes whenever they want but I have to follow rules........ok I am done..thankyou forum friends for listening. Laurie ps check your reservations

Sadly-- this kind of thing is only going to get worse (See article link below).

The only thing I might sugegst is to hang tight unless you are flying from a smaller market. They may add flights back again:

Delta keeps playing this precious little game with our flight times for October. They keep bumping it back by 20 minutes, then moving it up 4 minutes, then back 30 minutes. It's a good time. I figure I'll just show up and see what happens. Thank god I can fly direct from ATL.

Ya, we are enjoying the process. I call to rebook when I have a solid 90 minutes of writing to get done. It takes two hours to rebook on the telephone and I spend 90 minutes on hold, typing away and listening to Lowen and Navarro on mute.

I check my itineraries every day DURING THESE TRYING TIMES. Oops, looks like I need to rebook again.

Cheers, RickG

So far we're safe, we've only had one change and it was a one hour change for the better (I received an email notification from AA). We're flying from Boston in late Nov on a non-stop and I'm really hoping our non-stop doesn't change to a layover but like everyone else who's aware of what's going on with the airline industry these days I'm checking our flights periodically.

Laurie - I don't know if there are any reasonably priced fares on other airlines at this late date but if an airline changes your flight by more than 3 hours (I think that's the cutoff) they generally have to refund your money in full if you request so you could always get your money back and book another airline if that's an option.

I have a rule of thumb that I use with airlines, car rental agencies, hotels, cell phone service providers, etc and that is: "keep asking until you get the answer you want". It's amazing how often I've gotten completely different responses. If I were you, I'd keep calling - I know it's a pain, but all it takes is getting ahold of the right person. With airlines, I've also had luck dealing with someone in person. I have actually driven to the airport ticket counter on a couple of occasions, and the airport ticket agent did what the nameless, faceless person on the other end of the phone had refused to do. You have nothing to loose, so don't give up yet Laurie! Good Luck!

We used FF miles on Delta for our upcoming trip, and even though it meant backtracking in the air a bit, it was still convenient because we could leave from Melbourne, rather than having to drive to Orlando, Ft. lauderdale, or Miami.

Now they've changed the itinerary on all four legs of the flight. The MLB to ATL leg has moved from a 7:30 AM departure to a 6:10 AM one.

The ATL to STT leg is later than originally scheduled, so we'll have a nice long and sleepy layover in the airport there. We'll arrive on STT at 2:00 instead of 1:24, so no biggie there, although I hate to give up ANY island time.

We do get five of those minutes back on departure date, since the STT to ATL leg is now leaving at 3:30 instead of 3:25, but the ATL to MLB leg now has a 6:55PM departure instead of 7:50 so the time between our scheduled landing in ATL and scheduled departure from ATL is 14 minutes. I'm not too optimistic about making that flight (duh!) but I'm torn about calling them because they'll likely try and move me to an early morning departure from STT so that I can wait around the terminal for hours to catch that 6:55.

P.I.T.A.

I am really bad to NOT check my flights until the day before we leave. We are flying to Canada next week and for no good reason, I decided to pull up the flights and take a look (call it "woman's intuition"). My flights had been changed. On our return flight, the new itinerary had us flying from Calgary to Las Vegas, arriving at 8:25 am and then departing Las Vegas for Charlotte at 7:55 am. When I called the airline....they didn't see the problem. Um....duh.....It took about 45 minutes on the phone with someone who had very poor English skills making communication extremely difficult, who continually tried to either put me on a flight the next day or change my first class seats to coach (I lucked out and got First Class seats for the same FF mile rate as coach...and those seats are MINE!), before they agreed to put me back on the flights I had originally booked. Dealing with airlines seems to be getting more and more frustrating.

count me in as a constant watcher (surprise!)

Against my wishes, the group jumped on a cheap AA fare direct to SJU in Feb and I am worried AA will cancel it and try to sit us on a crap flight.

I am nervous because the 2nd half of the journey is by charter and a late SJU arrival has the potential to result in lost days and I can't have lost vacation days!

If you haven't checked your flights I would advise you do so. AA has cnacelled almost all flights to SJU. They are now using Miami, they changed my flights and I wasn't happy!

We just made our AA flight reservations last week for January and already the schedule has changed! Nothing major, 7:30am departure from JFK-STT instead of 8am. It's actually better, because it gets us on-island sooner. But I'll keep checking because a lot can happen in the next five months.

I also check our usair flight regularly. As of now, it's only 1/3 full and there is another flight from clt to stt that day. I'll honestly be surprised if it isn't cancelled....

Oh well, I suppose the pleasure's still worth all the pain!
