Timing and Car Rental ?

Post by Nic in KC »

So, if we make it in October, we'll arrive into STT at 5:15 if everything goes well.

On departure, we'll have to make the 6:00 ferry leaving St. John.

My question, does any car rental company let you pick up cars after 5:00pm on Sunday? We always rent from St. John Car Rental and I know they do not.

Thanks!

Lats time we arrived after hours, they leave the keys for you (either with the car or the villa co rep) and you just have to come back the next morning to do the paperwork.

For a late arrival I like to arrange the car rental through the villa company. Courtesy car rental has a good reputation for dropping off vehicles at the ferry dock for late arrivals.

We arrived (because of delays) after 5 on a Sunday in 2007 and STJ left the keys in the jeep for us. Hubs went down the next day to do the paperwork.

I can't remember if I called them or if the agent did. (We didn't have the agency rent the vehicle for us.)

Maybe I'll call St. John Car Rental and ask. We are likely staying at Sailview and I've emailed them also. Our last villa rep was who told us there was no way to get the vehicle from StJ CR if we arrived after 5pm. Hmmmm.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone have any experience with a 4:00 arrival on a sunday and renting from Dependable in STT? We have rented from them before, but arrived earlier. I am just a bit concerned if we arrive late? I have emailed them my concern, but have not received a response....maybe they are not concerned about it?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but its a similar issue :)

Nic - I'd go thru STJ car rental directly and leave the villa rep out of it if that's the answer they gave you.

STJ car rental will work with you.

Bougainvillea will meet you at their office whatever time you arrive.

I just reserved with Courtesy for next March and noticed that they have an after hours number in their confirmation.

Last trip we went with C & C and the rental was given to the villa rep. This was an unplanned ( American Airlaines plane no workee ) late arrival. Did the paper work the next day.

Hey Schnell,

We'll have to work on a 'late November' get together!

Less than 3 months ... :D

We didn't get in before 5 p.m. when we came last year (it was on a Sunday) and STJ car rental would not wait for us to pick up the car. They said no ifs, ands or buts, they wouldn't stay past their closing time for us, and they wouldn't leave the keys for us.

Finally, because some of the folks were staying at our villa were already on island, they gave them our car, but they wouldn't take that person off the drivers of our car and we didn't want to spend any time with her.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't rent from them if there was a chance that I wouldn't get there before 5 p.m. Or I would go through the villa because DSJ told me if we had booked it through them, they would've gone to get it for us.

It was our first time renting from them, and to be honest, aside from calling them to tell them we'd missed the 4 p.m. ferry and asking them if they could stay until we got there on the 5 p.m., I didn't really interact with them. The arrangements were made by another girl in our group, and I don't really think she got the St. John Way and might've been a bossy American tourist (at least she was everywhere else we went with them). They were nice when we stopped in mid-week to ask a question and they were nice when we checked out, but when I made my reservations this year, I didn't even consider them. Which is probably a good thing, because my plane doesn't land until 4:30, and I'm sure we'd have the same issue.

P.S. Two others girl in our group rented from Courtesy, and they did wait for them and the owner (at least the guy I recognize from the OSJ commercials) seemed very good to work with.
