Buffs for snorkeling?
Buffs for snorkeling?
Has anyone tried wearing one of those buffs while snorkeling? Do they work in the water or do they stretch out?
My wimpy head always gets burned while snorkeling and I'm looking for something to cover it with!
Thanks!

Here's the website for the Buff's

I have the opposite problem - too much hair! My hair gets between my mask and skin and breaks the seal and leaks (one little hair will do it!). These work pretty good to keep it under control.

Cass - I have the same problem as you with my hair getting in my face and breaking my mask's seal.
Last time I snorkeled, I tried wearing a Scunci (sp) band (the large ones) that I wear when I play soccer to keep my hair out of my face, and it worked GREAT!
I just kept it around my neck till I was ready to snorkel then slid it up around my head before putting my mask on. When I was done, I would just drop it back around my neck.
It looks like a very large but thin rubberband. I already have one in my snorkel bag for next trip.

nothintolose - I think I know what you are talking about. I have seen many ladies in the Olympics wearing rubber band looking thingys (softball players mostly), I wondered if it was a fashion thing or a "get this lousy hair outa my face" thing!
Money spent on Buff's and what not, are kind of a waste I think. I guess for the baldy's, getting them for the sunblocking abilities are worth it. If it's just to tame the mane though, any bandana, or just a big piece of fabric tied up correctly work just as well I guess.
I tried just a ponytail, but ALWAYS some wild hair, just one wild hair, would give me a nice saline nose flush!

I have a couple of buffs that I've used in and out of the water. I find they are a great all around item to bring to STJ. It can serve a bazillion purposes and view it a sthe equivalent of a fashion bungee cord.
I use them as a head band, scrunchi, do-rag, wrist band- you name. It could even double as first aid for a sprained ankle if you needed it.
And they don't take up a whole lotta room. I just throw a couple in my bag and use em when I need in the water or out. They dry fast.
That's why they use them on Survivor.

*Another fine scatterbrained production
I have a head wrap that I bought from this site:

It works well to keep my hair out of my face--I really hate having hair in my face while I am snorkeling! It stays on well--I just wet it before tying it on to my head.
The scunchi is a good idea too.

cass - definitely not a fashion thing for athletes, it works really well to keep the hair out of your face and you don't really notice it there. The other thing we use is pre-wrap but that gets all soggy.
onthelake - I brought a couple down there in case I lost one. I can't tell you how nice it was to snorkel without my bangs flopping in my face the whole time.
I have found them at Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS and several grocery stores. They have a bunch in the pack.
They also dry much faster than a bandana so you don't have a soggy thing in your bag. I was gonna go the bandana route in the scunci thing didn't work.
Good luck and let me know if it works for you.
