First week of November Rollcall?

Post by RickG »

Gang,

I know we have a lot of forumites on island for Halloween and the first week of November. But, I only see augie, SOTB II and theshopper3 & Larry on the calendar? Who else is going to be there?

We add RickG & NoTanLines and MrB & MrsB.

I'm thinking about the Beach Bar for Sunday Jazz on November 2 (Mekka Likka Heineken!). Hitting Honeymoon Beach on Tuesday November 4 might convince the divers going out that day with Chris Sawyer dive center at Caneel Bay to come by to play afterwards.

Cheers, RickG

Our little family will arrive 2 November, staying at Hale Lani. Husband, girls 3 and an 8, sister, my Mom and possibly my Aunt. Never been to Honeymoon, hard to get to? My Mom has MS so a long hot hike is out of the question...

Honeymoon is not for her then, IMO

Thanks for the honest feedback. Have wanted to go to Gibney but am not sure parking at the top of the driveway is such a good idea for us. Wonder if there is anyway for Terri Gibney to give special dispensation for parking if you have someone handicapped?

not sure about other access and don't want to be a party pooper but I will say that the driveway down can be steep for someone not steady on their feet and to me it has seemed slippery at times.

We won't be there until the next week, so if there are any stragglers then let us know. We've already got Sunday, 11/9 on our calendar for the Beach Bar.

Aroobagirl, is your mom OK with a few small steps? I think she'll have to go up a couple steps to get in the gate at Hale Lani, but once she's in there, the upstairs is all one level (well, two or three steps down to the pool).

The pool is pretty deep for it's size (over 5' because it went over my head), so make sure to watch those little ones!

Any more questions about the villa, let me know. I love that place.

aroobagirl, my dad has MS and he came to St. John with us last June. I would say definitely no to Honeymoon. My Dad did enjoy Gibney greatly--I think it was his favorite. But he is able to walk without assistance, not sure what your Mom's situation is. If she has balance issues I would say no--it is a little steep and sometimes there are rotting leaves on the walkway...slippery. Plus there is the walk back up the hill after a day at the beach.

That said, Gibney worked really well for him because he can't be in the sun for any period of time and there's lots of shade at Gibney. We were not able to stay at Cinnamon with him because of the sun, and he found the walk down to it and along the beach tiring.

He also really liked Maho and Francis. I made the executive decision to rule out Honeymoon/Solomon, Salt Pond, Jumbie, and Waterlemon.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks than in the drink with a boat on the rocks

Ahh, the pleasure. I imagine three is more trouble than 2? I do fondly remember the Thelma and Louise tour of 2001.

I can picture Nascarfan & Becky at their table at Woody's! With just Larry and theshopper3 coming down from the Great White North they'll be able to share a table next to that huge cooler of Bud Light!

aroobagirl, the advice so far regarding your Mom is all sound. My father has very limited mobility and he (and the kids) loved Hawksnest, Maho and Francis.

Cheers, RickG
