Overdue May Report: Tues-Thursday
Overdue May Report: Tues-Thursday
Everyone managed to wake up fairly early on Tuesday and it was decided we would again hit Baked in the Sun for breakfast and then head to Trunk since there were no cruise ships in port. No one around early in the morning.

The newbies were so blown away they just walked up and down the beach for a long time before joining us in the water. There was rum punch all around as soon as we settled in, 10am is usually when we break out the alcohol. Jason and I decided to go for a snorkel and it was wonderful. My last time at Trunk wasn't that great, but this was perfect. At one point I looked up and there was this huge trail of fish behind Jason. Big ones in front and smaller fish towards the back. I could tell that something was coming out of holes in his swim trunk pockets. I went up and opened the pocket and there was a piece of bread, evidently leftover from feeding the iguanas in this particular pair. It was funny that they all sought those crumbs out. It makes me wonder if some of the tour companies feed them like they do in Mexico. About 1/2 way through, I spotted an octopus. Here is a picture, but it's really hard to tell that it's there.

We let when the beach started getting really crowded and headed to Skinny Legs. My favorite Bleu Cheese Burger in the world with a coconut swizzle. Life was good! Next, everyone decides they are ready to be done with the beach so Jason and I head to Vies to enjoy the beach there while everyone else explores the island. First time at Vie's and what a wonderul spot that is.

We saw three turtles within minutes of arriving and had the place to ourselves. Perfectly roasted, we returned home where everyone was showered and getting ready to grill steak and shrimp. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meats at Starfish and the price wasn't horrible. A great meal and I think we watched David Cook, the hometown boy on American Idol that evening. The grill at the villa worked great for us!
Wednesday: Another early morning. A change of pace, parent's and Jason and I head out together and the other two couples do their own thing for the day. We stopped at Deli Grotto and mom and I shared a piece of pizza and a turkey sandwich for breakfast. Great food! We drove up to an overlook and sat to enjoy our breakfast and then we were off to Hawksnest. Jason and I had snorkeled here in August last year and my parents hadn't and we were trying to tell them how different it is. Again, no one around and gorgeous!

Mom gazing out at the water.

My mom really enjoyed snorkeling here and became more relaxed. Again, the beach got crowded and we headed home to get ready for our sunset sail with Calypso this evening. Down to the dock and it was just the 8 of us and one other couple. We love Calypso, the catamaran is beautiful, the captains and mates have always been friendly and down to earth. The drinks flow freely and the snacks are a nice touch.

Note the water in the background here, that's why the pic is so close up. That water is a particularly brilliant color of teal and soooo clear out there by the rocks. It's one of my favorite spots!

Our group of 8 on the boat.

There is nothing like the feel of the breeze while the boat rocks and you sip champagne as the sun departs for the day. It's almost silent on the way back to the dock as if everyone is simply sinking into the moment to burn it into memory!
We ended another great sail and chose to try the Lime Inn for dinner. It was good, but the food didn't stand out to any of us and it was really hot in there. The next picture is what happens when you have too many painkillers on the sunset sail and still try to make it to dinner.

Another day of peace coming to an end!
Thursday the newbies decide to take out on their own and my family decides to head to Gibney, a first for my parent's and my brother and Lina. We enjoyed many photo ops there.

Boys will be boys

The family didn't want to stick around after about an hour and wanted to head back to Maho. Some day I will spend an entire day on Gibney! The newbies met us back at Maho and they truly got the hang of snorkeling. It's so much fun watching other people get in the groove and Jason is a perfect teacher!! They got to see their first turtles which is always exciting! The newbies had made reservations for dinner at the Equator that evening so they went back to get ready and we had some drinks at Woody's and then grabbed Candi's BBQ to take back to the villa. Ribs, chicken and steak with pasta salad, slaw, fries and corn. We ordered 4 dinners for 6 people and still had some leftover. They served rum punch while we waited and it was the best rum punch I had the entire trip and the cheapest! It was a low key night of eating when we wanted, swimming in that gorgeous pool and hot tubbing it.
Oh, we did develop a visitor on our front lawn throughout the week. This little guy and his friend live down the road and think Sol is the perfect playground. Getting in the pool and chasing each other everywhere. We loved them and I kept threatening to take him home with me.

I'll wrap this up in the next report!

The dogs never once came to visit us at Sol Inclination
The other couple with us has two dogs and were really hoping for a visit since you'd seen them so much a few weeks prior, but them never came.
We saw one cat very briefly once, but that was it.

Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.

Thanks for another installment. You all look so relaxed in the boat photo.
About the fish at Trunk, I think it is pretty obvious from the way they behave that people are feeding them. The snappers especially always come right up to us and hang around. They don't do that at any other St. John beach. It is illegal to feed the fish, but maybe not everyone knows that.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
Hey Mark, we flew Delta on this trip. Everything was beyond simple and easy which was a shocker. We are looking at doing a trip with two layovers and a long travel day in October to get their without paying a ton for tickets. Something tells me that won't be so easy. I'm just doing everything I can to avoid San Juan!
Love the pics......and the puppy one especially. CypressGirl, Little Cypress and I stayed at Luna Vista last week, and tried to "steal away" with the 2 resident pups, but to no avail. When Jan, the owner, came out to tell us good-bye, she said she really came out to check out bags to see if we had the pups with us!
