Villa Skyway

Post by Marcia (Mrs. Pete) »

Good evening all,

Pete and I are planning our "family" trip for next summer with our four kids, looking at something other than Vistaero (we've stayed there twice with the kids). We have done extensive research and have checked the archives but have found nothing on Villa Skyway. It looks lovely but we have a few specific questions:

1. What is the view like? It looks set back into the hillside.
2. The 5th bedroom (apt. area), is it nice or is it decidedly different from the other bedrooms?

If anyone has stayed there, could you either respond here or PM me? We are hoping to lock something in fairly soon.

Thank you!

I know nothing about the villa but I just wanted to say I am so glad to see you back on the forum. You two have been way too quiet!

HERE HERE!
Digging the AVI. At last glance, you were back and forth between clowns and sock puppets. Glad you're over that episode.

Doesn't anyone know anything about this villa? Is it haunted or something? We can't find any reviews or input from those who might have stayed there...and lived to tell about it.

Hey There,

You should check with budman. He's seen it in person.

Hope this helps. 8)

I don't know if you have looked at Online Vacations. They handle Skyway and there are some good pictures on the site. We worked with Denise in May when we stayed at Villa Carolina. She came very highly recommended by budman.

We stayed at Cloud 9 just 2 doors down from Skyway. It is just off Gifft Hill and the views up there are stunning with the sunset. I walked by Skyway to get a closer look and everything about it looked beautiful.

Didn't someone on the forum stay at the house next door and say that they could see Skyway's hot tub?? Maybe I'm dreaming, but I would rent again up there and Skyway looks like a great villa!

Good Luck!

We stayed there in February. It is BEAUTIFUL. I would highly recommend it and Denise from Online Vacations. Although, to answer your question, the apartment is not so great-there is a water pump in the closet next to the bed and it is very loud. It goes off anytime someone flushes or runs water.
We stayed in the apt because we had little ones (safety concerns w/the pool so accessible to the "master br" above plus I figured the kids would be up earlier than eveyone else in the house). I would say that that is the only drawback to the place but older kids may not mind it as they have their own little place down there.
Aside from that, the view is to die for, it's private and the house is just beautiful. I would love to stay there again (in a different BR!). We even had massages on the pool deck one day-highly recommend that as well!! :) Let me know if you have any other ?s

De-lurk

We spent 2 weeks at Skyway this year and loved it. This was our 5th villa rental on St John and it was the best. Certain aspects of the villa may not be quite as nice as other villas, but when taken as a whole, it was the best – view, location, pool, etc. We’ve stayed at Chateau La Tete Rouge, Spellbound, Villa Carolina, and Chateau Margot, just to let you know what we’re comparing to. It’s an older villa that’s been completely redone. For the most part, it looks like a new villa. It has 5 bedrooms, 2 of which are new. It was just 2 of us so we opted for one of the new bedrooms rather than the master bedroom because of better AC and the huge bath. One bedroom was kind of small.

It’s located on Gift Hill about halfway between the Southshore road and Centerline. It is very close to the villa next door, but as mentioned, it’s not visible except from the hot tub and from 1 bedroom window which has no window treatments. It wasn’t really an issue though. If you have rowdy neighbors you will definitely hear them because of the close proximity.

Pros:
• Fantastic view to the west and southwest
• Non-chlorine pool (pool temp was perfect!)
• Tons of outdoor space to use
• Outdoor speakers with Sirious radio
• Outdoor fridge next to grill
• Beautifully landscaped
• Extremely quiet
• Not haunted ( as far as we could tell)

Cons:
• Some of the living room furniture was not real comfortable
• 5th bedroom / apt is on a lower level accessed from the front of the villa and did not appear to be used very much as the deck had a lot of leaves and debris on it.
• I don’t own this villa!
• The gravitational field is extremely strong in this area – several days we could not achieve escape velocity

We liked the villa so much we’ve already booked it for next year. If you like hitting the beaches everyday / all day, don’t rent this villa; you will only create stress for yourself: “Do we go to the beach today or just stay here?”

Thanks for the responses from the two of you that stayed there. You both touched on the one thing that was concerning us...the 5th bedroom/apartment/whatever.

One of the four kids would get that bedroom. If it is shabbier than the other bedrooms, that's not going to go over well. How bad is it? Bugs and creepy things bad or just not as nice as the other rooms bad?

You mean to tell me you don't have a least favorite of the 4 :)

Just kidding.

Hey, if it were up to me I'd sell 'em all for medical experimentation.

it was clean and such; i just couldnt get past the water pump in the closet. we took turns sleeping on the couch in the front part of the apt w/our kids (there is a daybed out there which is pretty nice so that may solve the issue if it's just one kid down there...)
