One more thing-- check out the Marriott web site:

Looks like they are offering discounts the longer you stay.. 30-40% off!

OH...we have stayed at that new Westin, and I remember it being quite nice. We have also stayed in other hotels over there and have to agree w/ Gromit...good area to get around the city via metro. Can also take a cab or walk over the bridge into Georgetown.Gromit wrote:Another affordable option for staying outside the city and Metroing in is to stay in Arlington in the Ballston area. We have a new Westin as well as other hotels. Anything near the Ballston Metro gives you a lot of affordable options without paying DC prices.
We hooked up with Cat and Kenneth from the forum last night in DC. They stayed at The Liaison on Capitol Hill (former Holiday Inn, renovated). This is a newly renovated hotel that seem to be value priced. I'll let Cat respond specifically. It's a good location for walking to the Mall sites and hitting Metro.
We had a fun evening with drinks at Washington Harbor in Georgetown (Charlie Palmer's rooftop bar was closed!). Dinner was Jose Andres' Jaleo and we finished at the Dubliner. It was fun catching up with Cat and Kenneth, whom we met at the NoLa Jazz Fest this year. Next trip, Amsterdam?

As Nothingtoloose and RickG have said we just got back and stayed at The Liason which just so happens to have been the Holiday Inn at one time.
The location and the beds are the perfect reasons to stay there!
It is about 2 blocks from Union Station and the beds and pillows were to die for! The resturant is under renovation but no worries we were really only there to sleep! We had breakfast at Union Station most mornings and were off on the Metro for another fun filled day!
I would definitly stay again for another visit! PM me if you have any more questions.

Hey Cat, we went by the Dubliner this weekend but did not stay for a drink as they were out of Oban. The bartender said something about "Ar buile bán sudóg" drank it all up.cat wrote:I would definitly stay again for another visit! PM me if you have any more questions.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt last summer and loved it. It was very near the Smithsonian and the White House. Lots within walking distance. I did a quick search for mid-October and weekend nights were $189, weekdays were $289. Very nice hotel, decent price. Check their website for their specials, might be able to get free breakfast as well.
