I don't know how to post pics but my favorite getaway here is a weekend break to Cooper Island over in the BVI -- a welcome treat from work here in the VI -- just a ferry ride away.

I live in San Juan Capistrano in Southern California. San Juan Capistrano was established with the building of the Mission in 1776 by Fr. Junipero Serra. Mission San Juan Capistrano is known as "The Jewel of the Missions" and it is one of the most serene places on Earth (and I can walk to it!). These pictures were taken last March when everything was in bloom!

For more information on the Mission you can go here: http://www.californiamissions.com/cahis ... trano.html
or here: http://missionsjc.com/info.html

The bell wall and the famous courtyard where the return of the Swallows is heralded each March.

The adobe church was destroyed in an earthquake in 1812 and it was never fully restored.
However restoration is an on-going project at the Mission and it's being done beautifully.

If you're looking for a great vacation, consider visiting some of the California Missions! :D

Our sailboat, Buona Fortuna. We are lucky to moor her in a very pretty spot. Just love to fire up the grill after sailing, crack open a cold one and watch the sunset over Manhattan.

Other than St. John, I don't know of anyplace more serene. There is a beautiful koi pond with a fountain that I don't think I have a picture of, and a beautiful little sanctuary with a gold leafed altar that is often used for weddings.... wait...

Ok, I found a couple more pictures. The koi, but not the whole fountain, the sanctuary, and one of the old buildings which now houses artifacts from Mission days and information about Richard Henry Dana, author of Two Years Before The Mast, and whom Dana Point was named after.

CA girl,

Those photos are beautiful!! Yes, you are blessed
to have surroundings that look so nice.

I love the gardens and the architecture.
Thanks for sharing!

I've yet to visit CA, but it is on my list.
My interests are in your area and points North.

Thought it would be cool to do the PCH in a
convertible...you know with the scarf and big
black shades

Someday I'll take the time to learn to share photos
here with ease

Gorgeous pictures, Margo!

Kathy, that's neat that you lived in Dennis. It's a nice little town. I have not gotten there yet this August because the weather has been lousy all month!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Staycations are really easy here in New England. So much fun & varied stuff to do all smooshed into a small space- Boston, Maine Coast, White Mountains in NH, Lakes Region in NH, the Cape, The Northshore. Everything is only a dayrtip or an night's stay away from everything else.

I don't have pictures but Hubby and I are going to Mohegan Sun for a long weekend in a few weeks.

http://www.mohegansun.com

Mohegan is a small casino in CT- just @ 2hr drive for us.

If all goes well, this vacation might pay us back. Our weekend at Foxwoods (another small casino in CT) paid us back a few years ago thanks to 7am bets on Red :D .

If lady luck decides to take the weekend off- we might end up with a very expensive vacation  .

During the day, we'll do daytrips to Mystic CT, an alpaca farm, maybe do a day charter on the river or the ocean.

We are not usually hotel-stayers but I really wanted room service this time :P !!

Can't wait!!!

Great pics Margo, We were out your way last week in San Diego. This east coast girl never thought she would say this... but I can see myself living there. Made my hubby very happy as he would love to move back there.

Well, I have to admit that I can't think of anyplace else I'd rather live. Where is your hubby from originally?

I can see you now... like Sandra Dee! Or you could come visit me and we could be Thelma & Louise (without the shooting anyone or driving into the Grand Canyon or part!)
