Trip Report From CariBert!! Day 6...At Last

Post by CariBert »

Trip Report Day 6 -A Day With Breakaway

Everyone knows that a day trip to the BVI's is in order for one of your days on Island. A chance to see the "other" Virgins and spend a pretty darn good day on a boat on the beautiful warm aqua waters of the Caribbean. We chose Breakaway mainly because of the itinerary. We are always looking to do something different on our trips, and we had never had lunch on Marina Cay. It was on the list of places to stop with the Breakaway, so, off we went!

They picked us up at the usual place, Visitor's Center Dock, and on the way to the Baths we had some refreshments....(yes, adult beverages again). They served them in some pretty neat "sippy" cups. No spillage here!

First stop...The Baths!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 3042"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFUIEa ... 6.JPG"></a>

This is another place all newbies really need to visit. It is just phenomenal! Big huge granite boulders, for no particular reason....well, other than space aliens put them there.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 8290"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFesw_ ... 0.JPG"></a>

There are at least two things you must do at the Baths. One, take a picture of you there:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 5298"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFcDG2 ... 6.JPG"></a>

And two, jump off the big rock in Devil's Bay:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 8818"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFf5QM ... d.jpg"></a>

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 7138"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFhE8x ... 3.JPG"></a>

I must admit I was the reason they all jumped...I talked them into doing it, but I did not jump! Of course on the way back up the trail, you have to get a picture of yourself holding up the boulders and keeping them off the trail....
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 4546"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFlNLX ... 7.JPG"></a>

After the Baths, we stopped at a small reef for a quick snorkel. It was rather nice.

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 2194"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuF-9k3 ... 5.JPG"></a>

Of course there were some jellies we ran into, but they were basically the harmless kind, so we just shoved them out of the way and went on our way.

Next stop...Lunch! At Marina Cay. A very pretty little Cay.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 5490"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuE0Hfj ... 4.JPG"></a>

Complete with Pirates and Cold Carib beer!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 1986"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuE1cPH ... 6.JPG"></a>

After a quick stop in to do some shopping at Pusser's
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 2306"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuGCXEr ... 5.JPG"></a>

We were on our way to the Soggy Dollar Bar at White Bay, Jost Van Dyke!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 0594"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuGUsM7 ... 5.JPG"></a>
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 8866"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuGVlF7 ... 8.JPG"></a>

We jumped off the boat
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 0098"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuE_TUU ... 2.JPG"></a>

And then we played in the water and drank some more Pain Killers........(yes, I know, another Adult Beverage reference)
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 3842"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFDv66 ... n.jpg"></a>

But, man, what a day! It was spectacular! But all good things do have to come to an end. We boarded the Breakaway, and headed home.....
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 4450"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFEjiT ... 0.JPG"></a>

Bye-bye White Bay and Jost...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 8338"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuGsCks ... 7.JPG"></a>

After some shrimp cocktail we landed on St. John,
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 2914"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuGxBMz ... 3.JPG"></a>
cleared customs with no problemo, and then...surprise, surprise, we stopped at Uncle Joe's Bar-B-Q on a whim and scored rib dinners! Late in the afternoon! Cool.......I felt like we should have bought lottery tickets right then and there!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 3250"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuG0h84 ... 3.JPG"></a>

Then we had some pool time, more adult beverages and watched another perfect sunset......say good night, Gracie...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/B ... 0482"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJuFFpfw ... 2.JPG"></a>

Up next.....Gibney (again) and the BB get together.....

CariBert,
I like the itinerary you guys had-may have to consider these guys for future-did you have to charter the whole boat or would they give you the option of paying per person and others could join?

Another fun day! We did that itinerary with the NHII. It was a good way for us to get a first time taste of the BVIs. A busy day, but lots of fun.

I believe the Breakaway and the New Horizons are the same people. They are sister boats. We liked it for 2 basic reasons, one the itinerary, and two it doesn't hold a whole bunch of people. It was a nice intimate (party) boat atmosphere, with the Captain and a First Mate. Both did an excellent job! We would do them or New Horizons again.

To answer your question, we did not charter the whole boat. It is a specific price per person, and if they don't have their minimum (I don't know what that number is 6 or 8 I think) they won't go out. It beats chartering the boat, paying for a captain and paying for the fuel. Now THAT gets expensive!

Thanks for all the comments. I hope everyone enjoys the reports as much as I like reliving it!!

Bert - You should be a professional writer. You'd be WAY better than that guy on the other forum (who doesn't like long trip reports). Jenrale
