Villa Adante by the Sea or anything with beach access

Post by nancyr84 »

Has anyone stayed at this Villa? Cannot find a review for it anywhere. It has a path to Hart Bay. Is Hart bay a swimable beach at all. We are trying to find a 3 bedroom Villa that has a pathway to the beach. My sister in law wants to be able to walk. Our budget off season about $4000 tops.

DiverDrew stayed there not long ago. Maybe you could PM him for specifics. http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/f ... ght=adante

also someone else just stayed at Terrahawk and mentioned walking to the beach at night.

We stayed there last February and there is a very steep path to the (rocky) beach. We never ventured down the path as there were so many warnings about it, and we just didn't feel the need. It's not really a "beach", and rather rough.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me!

Have you looked at Viridian Garden? Might work for you.

If you are looking for a good swimable beach within walking distance of a 3-bedroom, there aren't very many options. Hart Bay is rocky and usually rough, and I would not go swimming in Great Cruz Bay if you paid me, what with all the sewage from the live-aboard boats moored there. On the northshore, someone else mentioned Terrahawk, which I believe is 2 bedrooms-- but Kallaloo, next door, has three bedrooms and you could walk to several great beaches!

What about Villa Villekula? It's on the water near the Westin, with kayaks too. We didn't stay there, but it was on our list when searching for a place a few months ago and is very reasonably priced. There are several other houses right on the water in Great Cruz Bay. Caribbean Villas' website has the houses listed by location so you can find all the ones they have that are beachfront. Other companies, you may have to email with your criteria and they'll come back to you with suggestions.

Note that my suggestions are all on Great Cruz Bay, and as hugo pointed out, there are a lot of boats anchored there and some people are suspect of the water quality :)

We recently stayed at Villa Serenity at Francis Bay. It's about a 5 minute walk from the beach and is one of the few villas within the National Park. We really enjoyed it, a nice breeze made it feel much cooler than when we stayed in Cruz Bay. And unlike Cruz Bay we didn't have a mosquito problem. There are a couple more villas above it, one quite small and the other was more modern but likely within your price range.
At night, we would walk down to the beach and swim - check out the phosphorescence in the water!
The place did develop some technical issues in the two weeks we were there - but the managers did a great job in keeping things running smoothly. Fantastic snorkling at the nearby Waterlemon Bay as well.
The downside -- lots of chickens!

Kallaloo (next to Terrahawk) is 3BR and right above Gibney. When we stayed there, my mom also walked to Caneel, Jumby, and Cinnamon. (she is rather hardcore though, I don't think the average person would want to do that)

We loved the house but there is no AC. It is very shaded and on the north side of the mountain. I don't know how hot it would be in the off season.

We looked at one. Let me see if I can find it for you. It was right on the beach, and the beach looked nice.

I looked at both Viridian Garden and Villa Villekula (or however you spell it) last time because one of our folks wanted to be on the beach, and I was told that GCB is great for sunbathing, but not for swimming.

Here it is. A little over your budget, but right on the beach:
