Trip Report From CariBert!! Day 5 ...Finally

Trip Report Day 5..Gibney

We have a special affection for Gibney, it was the beach we were married on. So, every trip we go back, have champaign on the beach and take some pictures. This year is a wee bit different. One of our good friends just happened to be staying in the gibney Beach Cottage, and she invited us to come over and visit with her. We had never been in the cottage, and we only met Terry Gibney once, and she was a little anxious because we were dallying on her beach. After we explained why we were there (to get hitched) she was very warm and friendly. We were looking forward to meeting her formally and visiting with her.

We arrived on Gibney around 9:00ish. That's how you tell time while on Island. All the times end with "ish" like, "Yes, we'll be open tomorrow..ish" or "The 3 o'clock ferry is right on time...3:00ish". You know what I mean. Any way, we barely found a place to park outside of the Oppenheimer's iron gate, there were already 3 cars there. I gingerly pulled in, and we walked down the ramp to the beach.

About that time, a van came down the ramp, and a lady stuck her head out of the driver's side window and asked if I had just parked up the hill. I said yes, and she informed me I would have to move because there wasn't enough room for a van to get by. I sad, "But you just....oh, O.K. I'll move the car." I started back up the ramp and she offered to give me a ride. I jumped in beside her and started talking to her, and she said, "Why don't you just follow me down the ramp and park by the beach. I don't normally invite folks because they have an Attitude, but you're nice, and I like you."

I'll tell you, you meet some of the nicest folks on Island! So I parked down by the beach, and we walked over to Gibney. This is who we first met on the beach:

Strange little guy, but cute. Then we walked up to the Beach Cottage, and I started yelling opur friends name: "Hello.......Hello" Hoping not to rouse Terry yet. But we met our most gracious hostess, and settled down on the beach and had a wonderful time!

Gibney is such a pretty beach!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 4402"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJsZS8pW ... 3.JPG"></a>

Crystal clear water....
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 0306"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYX-zGQ ... 2.JPG"></a>

Turns out, it was our favorite beach to visit, and we did so two more times this trip! We also met up with some of our other friends, and we had a great time visiting!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 7058"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYYrzXA ... 1.JPG"></a>

This was also the newbies first snorkel....
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 7922"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYYaErN ... 9.JPG"></a>

She even pulled a solo!! We were so proud!
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 8626"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYYZju- ... 8.JPG"></a>

Snorkeling was pretty good too. We found this "Helmet...something something"...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 9874"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYYlSG- ... 1.JPG"></a>

Well, we couldn't just lay around the beach ALL day, so around noonish we headed for Anaberg. All newbies should really go to Anaberg. Not only a lot of history, but very pretty as well!

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 6402"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYYPI9- ... 2.JPG"></a>

While we were there, Friends of the National Park, Olivia's Bakery, was there with some free ice water and some Dum Bread. Well, it was free and they asked for a small donation, which we gladly gave!

Olivia:

Sugar cane......all that's left....
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/CaribBert/S ... 0626"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/CaribBert/SJYZNnhF ... 0.JPG"></a>

We left Anaberg, drove to the only gas station in Cruz Bay and got gas $$$$...whew! Talk about your sticker shock. I figured I'd get $30.00 dollars worth that would last a couple of days...it moved the needle up one notch on the gas gauge....*cough*.

Back to the villa, more pool time, drinks (yes Virginia, they were adult beverages) some dinner, and another fabulous sunset......off to bed. Tomorrow's adventure:

Day Trip With the Breakaway!

That does it - I am going to Gibney on my next trip. I did not make it there on my past two trips but after seeing Bert's pictures of it I am definitely adding it to my list of beaches to visit in May!! Thanks Bert....

Great pictures! I didn't make it to Gibney or Anaberg, will certainly put them both on my loose agenda for next time!

CariBert, We've been following your wonderful reports and pictures. We didn't go to STJ this years but started talking about '09. We truely think your reports put us over the edge; we confirmed our villa and plane reservations today for next year. Thank you.

Bert, Gibney is my favorite too. John and I also found a huge queen helmet when we were snorkeling there--maybe you found the same one!

I thought you told time on island as Rum O'Clock and Beer Thirty...

It probably was liamsaunt, I just hope whoever finds it next time will put it back so it can be "discovered" again!
