riding into the sunset
riding into the sunset
5 days and counting! Has anyone used Carolina for horseback riding? I've read mixed reviews, and was wondering if it is worth it or not? Thanks, Heckstar
Life is like a cow pasture... One wrong move and you may find yourself in a big mess!
I've ridden with them several times. I would say that if you ride regularly back home you might be disappointed (as you might with any trail riding outfit). If riding on vacation is a treat, then you'll probably enjoy yourself.
They are located east of Skinny Legs, just where the road turns sharply north (you go south on a dirt road). They never leave on time, so be prepared for a wait and if you've got someone coming to get you at the end, you might just want to have them wait at Skinny's and walk over there after (or get a ride from someone you rode with). Call ahead to set a time.
The ride is generally steep up and steep down over loose rock, but the horses really know what they're doing so no worries about that. She seems to have a variety of horses depending on a rider's skill level and interest. The ride can be very hot, so take plenty of water and make sure to wear good sunscreen. The views from the top of the hill behind the Moravian Church are really incredible. Some of my favorite pictures of the East End were taken from there in the late afternoon - the light at that time of day is wonderful. You might get to do a little romp in the school yard if you choose.
If you have any other questions, feel free to holler.

What Chickadee said. My daughters enjoys riding with Dana and generally like to book two rides on a one week visit. The pace of the ride is very much dependant on the mix of the people in the ride.
If you are a hard core horse person then you'll be disappointed. If you want to see the Johnny Horn Trail without having to slog up a steep hot trail on foot then this is a very good option.
We'll be back.
Cheers, RickG
