I finally finished organizing the photos from our trip to St. John, 2008 (some of you may have seen some).
It is the full set of underwater & beach photos as well as of photos of villas we stayed at - "Blue Palm" and "Sea Stone". I also dug up the photos of "Le Virage" and "Le Lapin II" for anyone interested in those villas.
Whew... I can now take a long break from "STJ-photo organizing" until next spring/summer. Hopefully, I will be adding the photos of "Cinnamon Tarn" and "Reef Madness" then

Ah... sorting photos took me over a month. Fun and tiring. I have some family in Japan and wanted them to see the photos too (nice to live in the internet age for that).
We were at Blue Palm in late May. The pool was not the warmest I've been in on St. John but warm enough to dip in every afternoon. It was too chilly for me at night or early in the morning but not for my husband. The pool is facing mostly south and it gets pretty good sun from mid-late morning until the sun disappears behind Bordeaux Mt. in the late afternoon. Blue Palm is in the lower part of Upper Carolina, so it is closer to Centerline Rd. and has somewhat limited views compared to the villas in the upper part.

I used a Canon SD850 IS & its housing. Some of the photos were edited using PhotoShop, some were barely touched, and some were not edited. Overall, I think it takes great photos for a point-and-shoot camera. Of course, if it's underwater, it largely depends on the conditions in the water (the better the visibility & the more sunlight, the better the photos).

We enjoyed Blue Cobblestone very much. We swam pretty far out around the right side walls (towards Salt Pond) and saw good stuff. It is pretty "deep", so I don't recommend it for beginners, but if you are a somewhat experienced snorkeler and the water is not rough, I think you'll be fine. The hike to the beach is not as easy as the one to Waterlemon but very much doable and that's coming from a person who is not much of a hiker.
Two weeks until St. John... you must be thrilled. Have a wonderful trip!

Hey Pickle... I hate to be a pain, but I am having trouble trying to find Blue CobbleStone Beach. I see Salt Pond and Rams Head on my map. Is it more towards Drunk Bay or the other way near Kiddel Bay. I hope you don't mind me asking you? I just love to snorkel and would love to see things like Rays, Turtles and even sharks. Thanks for all your help.

Blue Cobblestone is located about a half way along the Ram Head Trail. It's roughly 20-25 min hike from Salt Pond.

You'll have better chances of seeing rays and turtles in Salt Pond though. The most turtles we saw in one day was in Leinster Bay but we often see them in Maho and Francis also.
As for sharks, you probably won't see many, maybe even none - occasional Nurse, Lemon, etc. here and there. I'm sure they are there, but compared to other places I've snorkeled, I've seen the least of them in St. John. I am an admirer of sharks and don't automatically freak out if I see them (of course, it depends on the species). I saw them literally all the time in the waters of French Polynesia and have learned not to get rattled. They are beautiful animals.

Just in case anyone is keeping score I think I will rent from Colyspo Dingy for a full day. I'll head first to Maho Bay, then go to Francis Bay. I'm wondering if I Should go to the east side of Whistling Cay or just head over to Leinster Bay (where in Leinster bay is a good place to snorkel, Anna Point??)? Next will be Waterlemon Cay and Leinster Point. Did I miss anything?? I beleive that will be a fun filled day! Does anyone know of a place to eat lunch on any of those beaches I mentioned or should I just pack our lunch?
