Delta raises second bag fee to $50.00

Post by tjwgrr »

Delta is raising the fee for a second checked bag to $50.00 from $25.00. Delta still does not charge for the first checked bag.

Another reason to pack light.

I'm looking at a Travelpro 26" or 30" Xtreme Lite wheeled duffel bag. Only around 8lbs. Need something for two sets of snorkel gear in addition to my garments. Most 25-26" wheeled luggage is at least 15lbs, though some of the ultra lightweight is around 10.

We are taking a charter in Feb and are restricted to 40 pounds total per person, including carry-on and personal items.

Our smallest carry-on wheelie is close to 15 pounds and was considered "lightweight" when purchased in 2007.

So now we are looking for new super lightweight stuff too. I am going to check out the two you mentioned.

Here's another one. Athalon 15 pocket 29" rolling duffle. About 9 lbs, but has tons of pockets and gets great user reviews:

The 29" Athalon and the 30" Travelpro Xtreme Lite aren't carry on sized, but they do make smaller versions that are.

I like the Rick Steves 21" rollaboard. It is 7 pounds and is carryon legal. It can also be expanded past carryon legal. We use one of these per two people plus a snorkel bag.
