Montserrat letting off steam?

Post by Nannerz »

So I saw the headlines and volcanic ash on the forcast, more ash shooting into the stratosphere. I guess St John is seeing the haze pretty bad today from Montserrat. Anyone down there care to comment? Just hoping things calm down for everyone living and visiting. I leave on Thursday morning, hopefully our flight wpnt be affected.

There is some noticable haze today on STJ, but there has been since Saturday when we arrived, but it does not appear to be as bad as it was at this time last year. I was just remarking to pj last night how much more blue the sky seemed to be this year, but then today there is some additional haze.

It rained this afternoon and now all the cars have a white film on them!

Yes,
We have lots of ash here. I cleaned the pool this morning before we went sailing and when we came home this evening it was full of ash and dust. Its all over the deck and patio as well. It rained here this morning pretty hard for a little while and it appears to have washed the ash out of the sky.

I've read a few things about Montserrat, including an oddly interesting section in the book The Road to McCarthy.

Inspired by this thread, I went to Google and mapped Montserrat. I zoomed in.

Holy Jesus. What a mess...zoom in on what remains of the houses near Soufriere. Nothing the people here don't know...but what an utter disaster

Jorge, in checking your link, I found a space after the end of the web address. Click on "edit" in the upper rt. hand corner and put your cursor at the end of the address and backspace once. That'll fix it!

Or I could just do this: http://www.mvo.ms/

Seeing the pyroclastic flow in the picture on that website shows exactly where all that dust in the air is coming from! Active little piece of real estate, isn't it!
