Does anyone know this property??

Post by snorkelqueen »

For years when staying in a villa in Great Cruz Bay we have looked a what appears to be almost a "compound of houses" and I am wondering if anyone knows about it. As you look toward St. Thomas from the area of the Westin the property is on the right hand side of the bay, right on the point. There are three houses on a large lawn. It seems that the houses are empty (no lights at night) most every time we've been there over the last 7 years. Just curious.......

We stated at Villa Maria on the other side of the point and I do remember seeing the "compound" on the other side. Lots of flat property. I am curious also.

We saw this when we were staying at Eaglesnest. It appears to be a residence for a family or a group of families with dogs, goats, chickens, etc.

The last I knew that was still a non-rental property. The person that used to do our villa repairs lived in the small house and he was the caretaker for the property. An elederly woman lived there and he kept an eye on her as well. She was originally from the states and all her faily was still there.

When Woody left island, I believe that her family took over and she eventually passed away. The last I knew the family still owned the property. This was a few years ago and it may have been sold by now.

We had a really good view of this property when staying at Splendore and it also interested us. It looks so different, with the large yard and flat(-ish) land, from the typical houses in the area.

Wait...where is this?

We're staying in GCB the week after next and if I have a chance to spy on some chickens, I'm all for it.

It's on the "town" side of GCB as opposed to the Chocolate Hole side? That would be across from where we're staying at Blue Skies then... I love me some chicken watching

I really need to go to sleep.

Where is this place??

YES PIPANALE you need your rest!!! Yup it is on the town side of the bay. My family always refers to the property as the "armory" because it looks like three small barracks rather than the normal St. John villa types. We did try to drive to it last week and were able to see it when we took the road that goes up from "Jacobs Ladder" toward the bay. We did not get close but it looked like there were two small pools on the property as well. Anyway you look at it it is a really nice piece of property and probably worth a fortune.

I am racking my brain trying to remember the name of the lady that lived there. She was a widow and fairly well off (obviously). Woody lived in the house furhest away from the point and was one of the few people on island that had to mow a lawn.
