2/3BR Villa with newbies
Greetings!
First I want to give 3 cheers for all the wonderful trip reports the past few months. Reading them is such a nice break from reality. Thanks to all who take the time to write and post pictures. You may not realize how much people relish them.
We're starting to think about our next trip to STJ (3rd one) in May 2009. I've been reading all the trip reports and checking out the villas mentioned, but haven't come across just the right one I have in mind. We are considering inviting some well-traveled, but new-to-STJ friends along for this trip. I really enjoy the "villa hunt" research, but thought I would ask the experts if you know of one with these "requirements". This is probably going to seem picky...
1. We have stayed on both the Cruz Bay and Coral Bay sides of the island and enjoyed both. So I don't think we have a big preference either way. There are pros and cons of both sides IMHO.
2. Need 2 master bedrooms, well separated for privacy.
3. Our friends need cable TV. We are not TV-watchers and would prefer to sit outside, look at the stars, listen to the night noises and just enjoy being there. We would like our bedroom to be away from wherever the TV is to minimize hearing it. Some of the villas we have stayed in had the bedrooms in a separate pod from the living area.
4. Need a nice pool (not the tiny bathtub looking kind).
5. Shaded outdoor eating and sitting areas a must. We spend every possible moment outside, and eat all our meals on a deck, but with my pale skin, I need shade.
6. View out to water
7. Not sure of budget yet - we usually pay $2000-2500 for two of us, so with 4 we could go a little higher.
8. Some separation from other villas so we don't hear others or bother neighbors with our talking and laughter.
Nice to have, but not critical:
- view west for sunset
- no hair-raising steep drive to villa (we're ok, but our friends may not be)
Thanks!

Take a look at Vistaero with Destination St. John. It is bigger than what you are looking for, but has fabulous deck space, a huge pool (and hot tub) and you can each be on different floors. The only downside I see is that the "master" bedroom is bigger than the others, but they are all very, very nice.

Check out Hibiscus Gardens thru Vacation Vistas. Some friends of ours stayed there when were all on island together last month. Identical masters, pretty much brand new, great views of Great Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole. The only thing about it that wouldn't quite meet your requirements is the pool; its a little small.
Check out Anole http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/anole/index.html it's on the North Shore.
I haven't stayed there, however someone on the forum just recently did, but I can't remember who!
It's 4 bdrms., and the 2 masters are identical, separated by the great room. I'm not sure how the TV sound would be. Both masters have their own screened porch. I've always thought it looked really neat and it's in your price range.

I second Waterguys suggestion. We like Jazz Villa as well: http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/jazz/index.html

I am not sure if it's just 4 people going or more but if you only need two bedrooms, what about Bongo Bongo: http://www.bongobongostjohn.com/
Hale Lani has four bedrooms, but just the upstairs would fit your bill. The pool is not huge, but it's not bad, and my favorite part is the covered outdoor living room, with dining table and chairs. We ate out there every night.
The TV is small and both bedrooms don't even notice it. Very private for the upstairs masters.
