Thank you Liamsaunt. Yes, I think I understand your explanation, it's just something new for me, which I have never heard about before. I cannot say if I think it's a good or a bad system. If you can save the days to an earlier retirement as told, or in another way get rewarded not using the days. it's fine, but if you are unable to work in more than 21 days and have to take vac. days, or not having your salary I don't like it. But of course it helps that you are able to accue up to 120 days, so perhaps it's seldom that people are hit.

Hi Linne
How does it work there if you are sick or have an extended hospital stay.

Tom - I loved being there alone, but keep in mind, I am pretty much a loner. I spend 99% of my time alone even at home. Honestly, though, even if you are a more "social" guy, you'd probably enjoy a little time on STJ alone because it's a place you are familiar and comfortable with.

After reading about vacation time, I feel pretty lucky. One of the perks of my job is that I have no set vacation and sick time. I can use whatever I want or need. It's a pretty sweet deal. :D

Tom
I've also thought about the 'going alone' idea. I used to travel for work alone and I never had a problem with that. But on St John I like to snorkel most days and I don't think I'd feel confortable doing it alone. So I'd also like to hear what Vicky has to say???

On another note you could always ... ask your forum friends if they would like to 'share' your place.

Tom, I bet you would get out there and check out some things that you would not normally do! How about that walk from Reef Bay to Europa Bay?

I'm sure there will be forumites on islands while you're there and besides you have friends that live on island that can come out to play! :D

You should do it.

Tom

Hi again Tom!
We have a law for salaried employees, which says that you will get full salary when you are sick. If you are sick more than 120 days during the last 12 month your employe is allowed to give you the sack. Then you will get sickness benefit from the government. The amount will be lower than your normal salary, much lower if you are well-paid.

If you are a manual worker the situation is not the same. You will have full pay in a shorter time. I don't exactly know the rules! They can be different from job to job.
