Private water taxi for very small groups?

Post by liamsaunt »

Does anyone know or have experience with whether the private water taxis will pick up less people than the listed minimum on their website if you are willing to pay the full multi-person fare? I was looking at Dohm's website today and noticed it is listed at $20 per person/5 people minimum/$100 minimum. I am specifically wondering if I could arrange this service for when my parents arrive on island if I am willing to pay Dohms the full $100 charge. Same question applies to their linked land taxi--if I pay the full $75 + grat will they agree to take my parents alone if I can't find anyone else traveling at the same time.

I'd call them directly but I don't have the flight information yet so can't book the reservation.

Thanks!

Last year a friend used St John Shuttle. The captain's name is
Gary and the number is 340-513-9682 or 774-2629. He picked
up at Peter Bay and went directly to St Thomas. If I remember it
was $100 for the boat. Pricy for one but if you have more people,
same price.

Dohm's is $100 if you have 1 person or 5, same with the $75 land transportation. $75 is a lot for land transportation to Red Hook, I am using Dormanmois Bazile or Basil for short next week when we go for land taxi to Red Hook. He is $15 per person and will be in the terminal to meet us. He was recommended by Lisa Durgin the rental manager for Vacation Vistas, I will let you know how it goes.

St John Shuttle's website says it is $80 maybe they are trying to take a bite out of Dohm's http://stjohnshuttle.com/

The first time we used Dohm's was for four adults and we paied the 5 person minimum. We used Christopher Taxi and Dohms twice and had great experiences.

My wife, son and I used the services of Christopher's private taxi. Your party will find them holding up a sign saying Christopher's right outside of the luggage carosel in STT......they will whisk your party and I mean get you to the dock to meet Dohm's, most likely 20 minutes faster than a regular shared taxi and in a large air conditioned full size Ford van, 8) not on benches in an open air back of a pick up truck. A boat captain/driver will help load their luggage as they appropriately tip the taxi driver....I wouldn't give less the $15 but that's open to discussion....your party will immediately depart and enjoy a refreshing and speedy transit to Cruz Bay where either you or your villa manager will great them at the U.S. Park Service dock which is a bit northwest of the main city pier. Things for us worked with clock like precision.....it was well worth the cost and a great way to start off a visit after a long day of cramped cattle transit enroute to STT.....I would suggest a $25 tip for the boat captain/driver....again, that's open to discussion. Its the best present you could give to your parents.
