STJ Part 14 FINAL - A Samurai's Treasure
STJ Part 14 FINAL - A Samurai's Treasure
Before I begin and for any of my readers that may not know, if any of you are interested in the first installments of my report, you can find Virgin Gorda parts 1-7 chronicled in the Off Topic board on this forum.
<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1239.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1239.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
This morning I am up at 6:00 determined not to miss one second of my last moments on STJ so I grabbed a book and veged out on the hammock for a bit, but to tell you the truth, my mind wasn't in it (the lost book you know) and my heart certainly wasn't either. I got more enjoyment out of the peacefulness of the morning, the view, and the cute little bananaquits feasting on their morning bowl of sugar water. Finally I'm forced to face the harshness of reality, so I finish up as much packing as I can, clean up the snorkel gear, then hop in the shower to pretty up for the day while Honey is cleaning out the Jeep. All of a sudden, as I step out of the shower, I hear a panicked "MOM! MOM!" and Critter Boy comes flying into my room with a look of fright cradling something in his hands. I'm just thinking Gawd, please don't let it be a pre-historic bug or anything that slithers...he opens his hands and laying there inside them is one of my cute little banaquits. Apparently, it had flown straight into the glass entry doors at Orchid Hill, then fell to the floor being knocked completely loopy. He said he scooped it up immediately cause he didn't want the "stinking lizard killing cat" to eat him. He had spent a whole day prior to this trying to resuscitate an unfortunate victim of said killer cat moving it this way and that, stroking it's back etc. Finally Honey's like "he's toast little man" and gave him a proper burial. Well, I could see that birdie was breathing but his eyes weren't blinking and his beak was hanging open. Critter Boy called Honey up to investigate. Honey's like "DRAMA GIRL! Grab the camera" then she comes in and says "OMG! You can't take a picture of that bird! It's gonna DIE! That's sick!" Nick grabs the sugar bowl and proceeds to finger feed the little thing drop by drop and kept at it for like 20 minutes. Birdie just kept lapping it up, then all of a sudden, he started to blink and flew off perfectly fine back into the trees and NO, thanks to Drama Girl, we didn't get a pic.
<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1264.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1264.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
The Jeep is loaded and much too soon, everyone is ready to go. I suppose we all just figured there was no point in prolonging the inevitable so we locked up the villa and walked down to the driveway to find they call me Mr. Iguana standing by with a nice send off. I'm sure if he thought he could of gotten away with it, Lizard Boy would have packed him up along with his other personal belongings. Little did I know, the kid already had a stow away. Remember the cricket cage? Yeah well, it already had a resident. A baby lizard that fit in there right good. Gotta watch that kid like a hawk. He was gonna take him back home on the plane with us!
<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C00577.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C00577.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Back in town, Honey dropped us off at JJ's cause it's tradition, then went to go meet Levi of L&L to turn in the Jeep. We had a most delectable, lip smacking breakfast of Biscuits & Gravy with a side of Ham and for the kids, well I guess they were both jones-ing for some cheese cause they both ended up with grilled sammies on their plates. While we were sitting there Ruth stopped on her way out to say hi and I told her we'd be up to the shop shortly. She knows where the goods are too, don't ya Ruth! JJ's is my FAVE place for breakfast. Yumminess and choice people watching? How can you go wrong with that? After breakfast, Drama Girl, Critter Boy and I walked over to Ruth's place where I happily purchased some last minute necessities like STJ Grill Rub, Blind Betty's Jelly, Anna's hot sauce, a rock cause it said My heart belongs to STJ, a T-shirt, and magazine. I had to restrain myself from adding a couple other prizes but Ruth, I'll be calling you girl! Shh, don't tell Honey!
So now we thought we'd better walk over and grab some tickets for the ferry to Charlotte Amalie. While we're standing at the dock feeling sorry for ourselves, the Karate Kid asks if we can walk over to Now & Zen so that he can "just look at the sword again." So right about now I'm thinking ok, we bought Drama Girl a J-Hook day before yesterday and some artwork yesterday and the mommy guilt is starting to kick in. I looked at the clock, thought we had plenty of time and decided that I'd take him over while Honey and Drama Girl stayed and played guardians to our luggage. Walked straight over to the shop and it's locked up tight as a drum. Oh Gawd! You just would of thought he lost his best friend. His little lip was down so low he probably coulda tied his shoes with it. But not a word, just silence and despair. I walked him back to the dock then told him to wait there and ran over to the information booth on the corner. I asked the girl about the shop and she told me that the owner was in the park and walked me over to where she was. She remembered me from last night and when I told her the story, she said "come with me" and walked me back to the store where I went ahead and bought that damn sword. I knew the ferry was leaving any second and when I got within distance, I could see Drama Girl practically hanging off the boat waving frantically and then I heard Honey's piehole yelling "DAMN WOMAN, HURRY THE HELL UP!" So now I'm sprinting with treasure in hand and as soon as Nick saw what I carried back, his eyes grew big as saucers, the hand flew to his mouth and he's jumping up and down, "THANK YOU MOM! THANK YOU MOM!" Well just bless his little pea pickin heart I say. The cutest little sh*t EVER! The comedy of the event of course was the fact that I ended the trip exactly as it began. Running like HELL!
I suppose I could of ran a little slower cause of course I made the ferry (ain't that a pi$$er?) and after a long 40 minute lecture of "that is not a toy," we stepped onto the dock in STT where we grabbed a taxi and had him take us straight back to Emerald Beach. We couldn't check in yet so they stored our luggage, then Honey and Samurai Boy went for an afternoon dip in the pool while Drama Girl accompanied me into town for a last minute session of let's see if we can find anything else to buy. Most of the shops were closed so it was kind of a snore, but I did end up with a free drink at the Greenhouse after I asked the bartender if he knew where I could find a long, skinny package for the samurai's treasure so I guess it wasn't a total loss after all. That was indecent wasn't it. The bad thing was that I couldn't find a close rock to crawl under. The good thing was that the humiliation didn't last too long due to the fat glass of booze I couldn't get down my throat fast enough. Good lord, I need to remember to think before I speak! Back at the hotel, a sweet young man custom made a box for the Hittori Honso, then we ate a late lunch and enjoyed the pool and beach for the rest of the afternoon before heading back to the room to mope. Honey must have really been down in the depths of despair because we didn't see hide no hair of that man until the still of the night. Spent his last hours making friends and drowning mutual going back home sorrows at the bar.

Trip home the next morning was uneventful (if you can believe that one) so I won't bore you with the details. Like I always say, the trip of a lifetime! I have to give a big shout out to all of you who contribute so much to the best travel forum on the net. You guys are invaluable and even if we are all different, we are still bound by the same common thread, and that is our love of that most perfect little island! Well, it's been good fun! I hope you've enjoyed my memoirs and I appreciate you hanging in there with me and putting up with all my blunders, I gotcha back!

Thought I was done didn't ya? Despite the fact that I have now chronicled all two weeks of escapades, I really couldn't bow out before saying one last thing. But since I couldn't think of a more fitting end to this tale, I'll say it with a picture that's worth a thousand words and I'm sure you'll agree, this was all that really ever needed to be said in the first place. In the written and immortal sentiment of Potty Mouth Girl...

A perfect ending to a wonderful trip report. Laughed all the way through it. Your writing ability is second only to your love of the islands. Loved the way you were able to please Critter Boy with the sword. What a thoughtful mother! Thanks for sharing.
