Newbie Report--Day 5

Post by Shari »

I now understand what "Villa Gravity" is all about. With all three of us still feeling the remnants of yesterday's sunburn, we decided to just spend the morning "hangin'". Swim a little, read a little, nap a little. . .nice!

I scrambled some eggs for breakfast and found some Blind Betty's that a previous renter had left behind. A little on my eggs was so good. . .made a mental note to get some from St John Spice before the week was out.

We eventually went into town around lunch time. I had planned on lunch at Morgan's Mango, but they weren't open so we tried Margarita Phil's. BIG MISTAKE!!

There was a family and another couple seated outside and a couple being seated inside just as we walked up. I asked the guy seating the inside group if we should just sit anywhere. He actually rolled his eyes at me and said, "Yea-aah". Okay. . . we chose a table outside. I should have known from the look the family next to us gave us that things would only get worse. The outside couple went inside and got two menus off the bar. We picked up two off the table next to us. We spent some time looking over the menu, and then we sat. Mr. Eye Roller walked past us twice, once down the steps to make a phone call, without a word. Outside couple left. After 20 minutes, I walked into the bar and asked the bartender if they were short on servers today. He looked directly at me and said nothing! Mr. Eye Roller walked by grumbling, so I asked him if we should get our drinks from the bar. He stopped, rolled his eyes yet again, put his hands on his hips and said, "Look, we'll get to you EVENTUALLY!" I get island time, but rude is rude. As we got up to leave, the family next to us said that they'd placed their drink order 30 minutes prior and were leaving also. The one and only time on island we had bad service!

We walked back to Mongoose Junction and got a table at Sun Dog Cafe. Wonderful! Just six tables in a courtyard between shops, but good food and service. Mahi sandwich and potato salad for me, quesadillas for Greg and Layne. Spent the rest of the afternoon shopping.

Stopped by the house to get the camera, "Feet and Fins" book, etc., and drove out to explore the East End, Coral Bay, etc a little more. Haulover Bay was very quiet and serene at this time of day.

We headed to Shipwreck Landing for dinner not realizing that they had live music that night and we should have made a reservation. We sat at the bar and had a great time. Bartenders, Sharon and Brian, provided some of the best service we had anywhere on island. Layne and I had shrimp and Greg the Surf and Turf. All three of us shared a huge piece of Key Lime pie for dessert. The music was good, and we did an O-H-I-O shout out with some fellow Buckeyes.

I do have to say I don't know how some of you drive back to Cruz Bay in the dark after having few in Coral Bay. It made me a little nervous stone sober. Maybe being sober was the problem! :)

I like Margarita Phil's food, but our service was definitely interesting when we were there. Our waitress wasn't rude, but she was definitely different.

I love your Haulover photos, they really are peaceful.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
