STJ Part 11 - Mermaid & The Pig

Post by chrisn »

This morning was pathetic as we all woke one by one out of our comas, peeling our eyeballs open and dragging a$$ out of the bedrooms proceeding to sprawl out in the gallery carrying on like we'd just finished an expedition traipsing across Mt. Everest. Good Godfrey, all we've done for the last week and a half is drink, eat, sprawl and float. I mean, how much energy does one exert doing that kind of non-movement? Talk about WEAK!

Since today was a non cruise ship day, of course the plan was to spend the entire morning on Trunk soaking up the vibe, so with that in mind, we all had a bowl of non nutritious kid cereal for our morning sustenance (that aughta help with the energy levels) before stumbling through the morning rituals. We all piled into the Jeep and headed out to the North Shore arriving in Trunk's pretty empty parking lot around 9:00. We then paid the fees and walked down to the beach to scope a choice spot for the day. The sheer magnificence of this beach never ceases to amaze me. It's where I first lost my heart to STJ's charms and it will always be special to me. By this time Snorkel Boy is jones-ing to get out to the trail and is dragging me along with gear in hand toward the water. I started to ask Drama Girl if she wanted to join us and before I could even finish my sentence she replied with "not only no, but HELL NO!" and proceeded to bust out the float of love and comatose herself in the shallows for a spell. I think she's done snorkeling this trip since the idea of being on sharp tooth's brunch menu isn't her idea of a swell time. While she basted herself on the water hammock, Snorkel Boy, Honey and I had a nice, relaxing, underwater sightseeing tour. I thought it was pretty ok today. Saw a ray and a nice school of Parrots, Blue Tangs, the skinny yellow ones (sorry, didn't identify with my notes), and those ones that ignore and bully Marlin out of the way in Finding Nemo when he's like "excuse me?" I love it when I see Disney characters under the water, but it always makes me smile and break the seal on my mask or suck water up my nose when I start hearing things like "are you my conscience?" and "come e're little squishy" in my head. I'll take that over the theme music from Jaws though so who's complaining? After the snorkel run, it's time for a bake and while I caught some rays, Critter Boy played master builder in the sand and designed the 4 Great Pyramids of Trunk. They were really good too, he even built an aqueduct system; but of course not one but two smart a$$es had to walk by and mess up his chi saying "hey kid, don't ya know there are only three?" Umm, I said the Great Pyramids of Trunk not the Great Pyramids of Giza, sheesh, don't they know anything? Maybe since the championship swimmer idea seems like wistful thinking, perhaps the sand building is a sign he'll be a famous architect and build me the Parade of Home I've been destined to drool over for life. Already he's wanted to be Harry Potter, a Veterinarian, and most recently a Hollywood stuntman. Mayhap, one of the good ones will stick! After some good times in the sand, surf and sun, I realize that the beach is starting to fill up to the size of STJ crowd standards and also about that same time, the kid cereal is wearing off and bellies are starting to rumble. Next thing I know, a family of 5 plomps down I kid you not, not even 1 foot from us with all the beach in the world available, acting like it's the best spot on earth and Drama Girl bolts up from her towel and announces "WELL, LOOKS LIKE IT'S TIME TO GO!" She's such a beach space snob and the funny thing is that she doesn't even read the boards to see all you guys bi*ching about it!

<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C02555.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C02555.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1244.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1244.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1245.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1245.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So I guess we're all beach space snobs cause we grabbed up our gear and high tailed it out of there. Since it was lunch time, we decided to stop at Mongoose Junction for some tasty treats. First things first though, we hit the bar for a round of one of my fave drinks, the Geckoladas (Midori/Melon Colada). Well of course the little man had to have one (virgin of course) too since they were green and came adorned with a plastic critter. Bonus besides the buzz for me was the fact that they come in fancy handmade STJ glasses that for a price, you get to keep! Score two for me! We grabbed a table at the Sun Dog Cafe and had a lovely server who took our orders of Chicken Artichoke Pizza with white sauce and capers, Turkey Bacon on Texas Toast and shocker, a Cheeseburger. YUM, YUM, YUM! Everything was delicious but damn if I wasn't totally coveting the Turkey Bacon after a bite of Drama Girls. OMG! Can I just say YUM again?! YUM!

After that most delectable lunch, we decided we wanted to head over to Caneel Bay for an afternoon of Honeymooning. This was one of the only times that I heard Critter Boy bi*ching during the trip. His man rash starts getting freaky with too much wet beach walking. Since I'm just a girl, I can't really relate too well to the poor little fella's predicament but more snorkeling seems to take the edge off, so as soon as we get to the beach, he's good; that is until we have to walk back out again! I freaking love this beach! There is something really special here. It's never a trip to STJ without a hike to spend a little quality time on Honeymoon. There were only maybe 3 other people on the beach so life is good until I spot the 3 machete men watching us in the trees. I know they were workers from Caneel that were probably suppose to be working, but they did more watching then working. Machetes...STJ's choice of weapon and tool. While Honey and Nick did some more snorkeling, then moved on to sand sculpture, Drama Girl and I spent most of the afternoon submersing ourselves in the waters of feel good, my favorite pastime. Little did I know that Honey's hiding some serious skills. He's decided to create a beautiful mermaid, and while Rash Boy was busy with the scale design on her tail, Honey busted out Dr. 90210 and surgically enhanced her with a couple of big, round, fake, silicone sand boobs. Is there any reason at all why they couldn't be smallish natural boobettes? It's official...Honey's a PIG! To add insult to injury, I think I got the short end of the scalpel since Honey's career path never headed in the direction of plastics. I mean, I could have had $$$$ and boobs right? Sucks to be me! After spending time on my Honeymoon with Boob Man, we walked back to Caneel and while Drama Girl and I napped in the shade, the a$$ formerly known as Honey and Rash Boy swam out to play on the platform for a while. While they were out there, a dumb lady started crying that she lost her wedding ring and one of her diamond earings. This is why I NEVER EVER where my rock to the beach. I can just imagine what her honey was telling her out there but luckily, my Honey gave her honey his mask to dive down and look for them. Even luckier, he actually found both the ring and earing laying just beneath a fine layer of sand. These sort of lucky things NEVER happen to me. I would have been S.O.L and had the wrath come down on my head. Well, she thought Honey was a God after that but to me he was still just a PIG, and no that does not mean pretty important or intelligent guy for you male types out there.

After our day at Honeymoon, it was back to the villa to clean up a little before heading back out to Coral Bay (it's becoming a serious habit) to have dinner at Shipwreck. Menu selections were the Fish & Chips, New York Strip, Chicken Caesar and what do ya know, another Cheeseburger! I was really looking forward to eating here since we had not done so before but I have to say that even though I know I'll get flamed for this, I was a little disappointed. The Fish & Chips were not cooked properly and my salad was terrible. The lettuce was brown and wilty way beyond what ever should have been on a plate. I'm sure the Cheeseburger was fine the way Nick inhaled it and I will say that the steak was excellent but it really was hit & miss. Since it gets such great reviews though, I'm willing to give it another shot next trip. After dinner it was back to the villa where we had movie night then fell blissfully into sleep. Well, everyone except for me, of course I ended up dreaming about fake boobs all night.

Next Up: A trip to the little blue cupboard

Chrisn, you are a fabulous storyteller! I wish I had your skills. This is probably why I include more pictures than words. My trip reports seem so boring now. I think you should continue your reports even after returning home! The adventures of Rash Boy, Drama Girl, and Honey... Love'em!

Cap'n Kirk, I'm not a comedy writer. I simply like to write. Have since I was a kid and I like to write about stuff that strikes me as funny. It's certainly not hard to come up with funny traveling with my peeps. Pretty much anyone could do it following my clowns around.

SanDiegoMark, your trip reports are great! You're doing an excellent job.

Robin, that is a lovely compliment. Thank you.

And thanks to everyone for all the nice remarks. I'm glad you all are enjoying my stories and I hope I don't disappoint you with the few final chapters. The pressure I tell you...
