Other Forum

Post by Terry »

I have a long awaited question...why is that "other forum" so ugly and negative, and this one is so helpful and positive?

Because we are nice people and they aren't  Just Kidding

There are folks on other forums that say that we are too nice and avoid confrontation at all costs. There are people that really don't like this forum and some that don't like the others.

I think it is a matter of preference. I prefer it here. I like the folks here and the information that I get.

Plus we are much nicer, better looking, and have better taste :P

Yea, the tenants seem to be locals. Why wouldn't they want to protect their surroundings? To us, their attitude is such a turn off.

It's a shame, isn't it? Why mess up a travel board with so much negativity when folks are there to talk about and share experiences about some of the most beautiful places on earth?

There are some really nice folks over there (some of the same ones here). It's just a shame that there are a few who like to pick things apart (and pick on others over semantics or knowledge of their right to an opinions. My other issue over there is that newbies are not tolerated too well. Is it necessary that someone newly excited about the prospect of a trip to the USVI be required to exhaust the search function before they ask a simple question? If you don't want to answer the question - ignore it.

It's been better than it used to be -- I had stopped posting over there for at least six months. I hope things are not going back to the same old again.

Someone tried the same stuff on TA but was shut down rather quickly, thank goodness.

I read and post on a few forums. There's stuff that I like and don't care for about each of them. I've been around them long enough to have seen a few incarations of each forum. They change (evolve or devolve, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly) and some eventually disappear. I try to be of some help and to not get drawn into the mire too often. I don't really have a "home forum". I also try to keep in mind that they're just internet travel forums.

I'm not even sure which "other forum" you mean.

I read all the STJ forums that have interesting content. I skip the parts that don't interest me. I use an RSS reader (currently netvibes.com) to hit all off the other forums and cherry pick the interesting messages; the only forum I actually use the native interface is this one. Most RSS feeds via feedburner miss posts and are behind, but I get enough to feed the obsession.

As an Internet user since 1984, ignoring the idiots is usually the best approach. Too bad kill-lists don't work on these forums the way the did on Usenet.

I was thinking the same thing Rick, what other forum?
I know the TA forum and I check that out every now and then..
I do like the people here. I do not think it has anything to do with where you call home.....
some people just have a bug up their a$$ and they like to spoil other people's moods........
I just ignore them........or try.......lol

I think the biggest difference between this forum and the "other" forum is that alot of people here know each other personally. You all try to get together, you've been on island together and you have that connection. That does make a difference, at least to me it does.

As far as the "other" forum goes, there's some very nice people there, although it's more talk about STT then STJ. I'm a STT person, so I'm on that forum more.

I've left that forum at least twice because I've gotten my feelings hurt by at least one person, but hey, the good outweighs the bad.

You know what I'm talking about Margy

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the VINow message board (www.vinow.com)

That other forum had nice people and some really nasty ones. Life is too short to get chewed out on a forum for nothing! I visit there once in awhile for "old time's sake". :D
